Today, I did the last two of this week's eight projects! Here's a cute piece created by the Year 3/4 kids from the tiny Oak Hill Primary School. (Home to just 50 kids) I thought this was lovely, two and half hours work from scratch. 😁 darrellwakelam.com

I've had a very busy week working up in Gloucestershire. Eight schools, 6 different year groups, 350 miles, eight different themes, over 100 kids, one tired Darrell . . . worth it though, none of this work existed on Monday morning. 🙂 darrellwakelam.com

Here’s the two lovely finished pieces from today’s workshops. The kids at Hope Brook Primary created their school values (like cogs in a machine) and the Tibberton Primary pupils made their ‘L.E.A.F’ values surrounded by butterflies. 😁 darrellwakelam.com

I’m up in Gloucestershire this week, working with 8 different schools. 😮 This morning, a group of kids from Ann Cam Primary made a large version of their school logo. 😁 darrellwakelam.com

Just before the pandemic, Blackburn BID approached me with a unique commission: to write a story that would help bring momentum back into the town centre. To accomplish this, I delved into Blackburn's rich history and intricately wove it into my story. This story has served as an educational tool for families and children in Blackburn, highlighting the town's rich heritage. Through my research, I discovered that Blackburn Museum houses the largest collection of Roman emperor gold coins outside of London. I also learned about the Hart family, who made significant contributions to the town, notably through their invention of Lambeth rope which was a cotton twist that became essential for industries worldwide. I transformed the concept of this rope into a magical artifact that transports children through time, allowing them to explore various decades while learning about history. This project has been incredibly rewarding for me; I thrive on research and have a passion for uncovering stories of the past and present. My writing commisisons are always centered on education, and I take immense pride in my work. Additionally, it has been a passion of mine to adapt this story into a theatrical production, and I'm thrilled to share that this dream is now coming to fruition. I'm particularly excited that this production will be part of the reopening of King George's Hall in Blackburn, a stunning venue that has recently received Heritage Lottery funding for its restoration. During the pandemic, I shared my story with actress Jenny Agutter OBE while she was filming "Call the Midwife," and her positive testimonial comparing my writing to that of E. Nesbit and Lewis Carrol with a hint of Narnia, was incredibly validating. Receiving such praise from a distinguished actress with extensive experience in the industry means a lot to me. I’m looking forward to collaborating with Westholme School renowned for their exceptional theatrical productions, as we bring this story to life. @BBCLancashire @BBCNWT

I've spent the last couple of days up in Gloucestershire working at two Special Schools where insect-making was once again on the agenda. Here are today's 'swarm' made by the kids from William Morris School. 😁 darrellwakelam.com

This week has begun with an online workshop for Whiston Junior School in Rotherham, where the Year 4 children wanted some help with their 'Rhino' project! I showed them a few different building methods, all using recycled materials. darrellwakelam.com
