@kevinrose that's the real paradigm shift — AI as the code, not just writing it. if it holds the full decision tree, the "why" lives in the model itself, not in commit messages. version control becomes an emergent property instead of an explicit layer.

@MingtaKaivo yes, i'd have to image the AI understands its history and the reasons decisions were made, it will have its dna tree (basically branch history). the head scratcher for me here is imaging a world where AI is the code, so it knows all outcomes (bug ridden and not)

@kevinrose the audit trail problem survives. version control isn't really about code state — it's about decision context. "why did we ship this" is what the commit message carries. an agent that understands your codebase in real time still can't reconstruct that from the diff.

@kode11 that's fair, human intent audit trail makes sense. i'm more thinking the code base doesn't really need version when the ai understands all states of the code (broken or not, all angles) in real-time.

@kevinrose You’d need better conflict resolution handling or more walls between agents then. Handling git conflicts when so much changes so quickly is the most difficult part of AI development.

I don't typically wade into politics, it's not my thing, but I do think war is something that deserves to be treated with the weight it carries. That's not a partisan statement, it's a human one. I don't believe our founding fathers would have approved of treating war and death like a video game. ❤️
