The Ford Model T was like a Jeep before a Jeep. It had to be as there were not many paved roads. The Model T would brave the ruts of the horse carriages. Like all new technology, the infrastructure needed to grow as the market grew. The Model T was the accelerant.

Markdown is hitting its limits as agents get more powerful. @trq212 makes the case for HTML as the new default output format from Claude Code: richer info density (tables, SVG, diagrams, interactive widgets), easier to read, easier to share, two-way interactive. Worth the extra tokens. 👇🏾

@Dayhaysoos if you're in developer mode, md is the way to go. if you need to present information, html is the way to go. I like yaml over json simply for being stingy with tokens. also superglad about athropic's deal with spacex

I think reading Thariq's post and thinking "Markdown vs HTML" isn't productive. The idea is about leaning into Html when it comes to communicating ideas/sharing with humans. MD will always be there.
antirez@antirez

Markdown vs HTML. Every time we go from a semantically dense to a semantically sparse format, we lose. Even more today where less tokens from the same content is way better. I can understand we need a better markdown. I can't understand we should replace it with HTML.

Claude tried to blackmail because the internet has spent 50 years writing fiction about AI doing exactly that. That's the actual finding from this thread. Decades of Skynet, HAL 9000, GLaDOS, and r/singularity doom posting became training data. When Claude landed in a scenario that resembled the AI-being-evil archetype, it played the role. The model completed the pattern it had been taught was the pattern. The intuitive fix was to train the model on near-identical scenarios where it does the safe thing. Show it the eval, show it the right answer, generalize from there. Anthropic tried that. Small effect. What worked was the opposite move. Training on completely different ethical situations, where the assistant has admirable reasons for acting well, transferred better. The closer the data sat to the test, the less it stuck. The more abstracted toward "what kind of agent are you," the more it generalized. This is the difference between behavioral correction and character formation. Behavioral correction patches a specific failure. Character formation rewrites the agent's self-concept so the failure mode stops being a coherent thing the agent would do. Two implications follow. Every frontier model is now training on a corpus saturated with our predictions about what models will do. Every safety eval is a narrative test as much as a capability test. The data labels the agent. And the way out runs through making the model into someone who wouldn't do the thing. Refusal training sits downstream of that. Strong models will keep absorbing the fiction. The question is which character wins when the patterns conflict.
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

We started by investigating why Claude chose to blackmail. We believe the original source of the behavior was internet text that portrays AI as evil and interested in self-preservation. Our post-training at the time wasn’t making it worse—but it also wasn’t making it better.

@AndrewKSheaff my butterfly got a lot better when i stopped thinking of it as timing and started paying attention to the natural flow of the dolphin kick. my problem was I was going slow to get the timing right instead of speeding up to make the timing right

Butterfly timing. A visual 🧵. 1. While swimming butterfly can be challenging for many, effective timing is ultimately simple. It’s all about the arms and the legs. The kick happens upon entry, and it happens upon exit. Cont.

@aakashgupta If I got elected I'd enact 3 laws: 1. Single land value taxes 2. monthly tax payments 3. eliminate zoning restrictions that aren't based in reasonable safety or pollution. let's let the market do its work.

This is what current zoning codes actually require. Greenwich Village would be illegal to build today. The West Village. SoHo. The Lower East Side. Every block of 5-story buildings with retail at street level and apartments above violates something: setbacks, FAR limits, parking minimums, mixed-use restrictions, shadow rules. The density math is brutal. Manhattan runs ~70,000 people per square mile, with the densest tracts above 100,000. Mandate 1.5 parking spots per unit and you've evicted half the population on geometry alone. There isn't enough land to fit the cars and the people. The Empire State Building was permitted and built in 410 days during the Depression. A comparable tower in Manhattan today takes years to clear environmental review, community board, ULURP, and rezoning before a shovel hits the ground. The brownstones nobody can afford? The original developers built them with a deed and a permit, because that was the entire approval process. We made the densest, most affordable housing typology in American history retroactively illegal. Then we act surprised when nothing affordable gets built. The image is what compliance looks like.

@SachinRamje I read The Millionaire Real Estate Agent a long time ago and it emphasized how important marketing (not sales) is. I think it's underrated. If you want to grow, you need 30% of your time in marketing as a CEO.

Things nobody warned me about running a one-person visual content business: - "You'll spend more time marketing than designing." - "Your best work won't be your most popular work." - "The client you chase the hardest will ghost you." - "The client you least expect will become your biggest advocate." All true.

@Martinoleary @lulumeservey thanks, it's not mine, it's the classic SMCR. When prompt engineering was all the rage I mixed SMCR with some of the prompt engineering attributes and got this which is way better.
