This #WorldKidneyDay, Lagan Valley Island shone in green and purple to raise awareness for PKD and the impact it has on families across Northern Ireland, and further afield. Martina, who championed the “Light Up”, attended with her husband and their rescue dog, Teagan, now the honorary mascot of our Northern Ireland PKD group. Martina inherited PKD from her father and received a transplant in 2010, thanks to a kidney donated by her sister. Joining the light-up were Rod from Belfast, living with PKD for 25 years, who will soon start dialysis, having inherited the condition from his mum. And Linda, host of our Northern Ireland PKD Connect group, who actively promotes support for those living with PKD, highlighting the importance of community and awareness in helping people navigate the fear and isolation the condition can bring. Alongside Team PKD was Councillor Brian Higginson, Chair of Corporate Services of @lisburnccc This light display symbolises unity, hope, and strength for everyone affected by PKD and all kidney diseases. Shining a light on World Kidney Day! 🔦⛪ Tonight, the magnificent spire of Rochester Cathedral will be illuminated in yellow for #WorldkidneyDay 💛 Founded in 604 AD, Rochester is England’s second oldest cathedral. Its current spire, built in 1904 atop the restored bell tower, is a striking landmark and a fitting symbol for showing that #KidneysMatter.
