as a mother, I actually love watching these women. it's beautiful to me because they allow me to peek and see what life may have been like. especially if I was unable to carry or simply chose not to have a child. not in a regretful or sad way, but how they make it fulfilling and beautiful for women who are childfree. I also observed how important it was to maintain my own self-care rituals and indulge in my solitude as a woman and NOT just a mom. I don't think we give them enough credit for that. they help remove the guilt that many women feel during self-care.

Want to know why women say “I choose the bear”? Let me tell you what happened last night. My partner and I go to the grocery store to get ice and firewood because we’re camping. The parking lot is pretty wide open. I empty the melted ice from both coolers and as I’m loading the larger cooler back into the car a 2022-2023 white Nissan rogue pulls into the space right fking next to us almost hitting me. The driver proceeds to get out, lights a cigarette and proceeds to talk to me. I was pissed but my initial thought was to engage and be vague to see what his deal is. He proceeds to tell me he just arrived in town from Missouri with his wife who’s from the Philippines and has only been in the country for 90 days (I peak into the car and no one is in there). 🚩 He said he’s driven all day but is in a full suit with dress shoes. 🚩 He then says he’s a an army veteran and when I ask where he was stationed he gives a city in Kansas where I know there isn’t a base currently nor was there ever a base there. 🚩 He then starts asking questions like “so where are you camping? How long have you been there and when do you plan on heading home? I see you have Virginia plates, where in Virginia do you live?” Super invasive shit and of course I play dumb “oh I didn’t book it my partner did, I’m not sure what it’s called” 🚩 As he starts to talk closer and closer to me my partner comes out from the store, sees this sketchy scene unfolding and hauls ass to get us in the car and leave. I knew this person was a liar and was up to someone but it didn’t fully click until now. In hindsight, this could have ended very poorly. As women we live with our heads on a swivel. All we want is to fking exist without feeling like we need backup. If you’re in Asheville and are approached by a man dressed like he’s just left a wedding, driving a white 2022-2023 Nissan rogue with Missouri plates, do not engage.
