The automobile industry has spent a century shifting blame for road deaths from the people doing the killing (auto manufacturers, DOTs, drivers) to the people doing the dying (pedestrians). The odds of them programming this aggression and hostility into their AVs is very high.

“We know how to make streets safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers but choose not to do it because we value vehicle speed and motorist convenience over people’s lives” is a banal truth that has been profoundly radicalizing for me.

You can complain that your rapid transit system doesn't serve enough communities or you could step up and build it! Boston's system was small but from the 1960s until the 1980s, the system had steady expansions. The recent green line extension is another system success. We can do this in Philadelphia and build subways to better connect Northeast and Northwest to the rest of the city.
