🇳🇬 NIGERIAN ARMY RANKS AND THEIR DUTIES (SUMMARIZED) The Nigerian Army is structured into different ranks, each with specific responsibilities. From the lowest recruit to the highest level of command, every rank plays an important role in maintaining discipline, security, and national defense. 🔰 NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS (NCOs) & SOLDIERS A Recruit is a new entrant undergoing training. At this stage, they learn discipline, drills, weapon handling, and the basics of military life. A Private Soldier (Pte) is the lowest full rank after training. They carry out orders, participate in operations, guard duties, and patrol missions. A Lance Corporal (LCpl) is a junior leader who assists in supervising small groups of soldiers and ensures tasks are properly executed. A Corporal (Cpl) leads a small team, often called a section. They are responsible for maintaining discipline and ensuring orders are followed. A Sergeant (Sgt) is a key field leader who manages soldiers directly, oversees training, and ensures operational effectiveness. A Staff Sergeant (SSgt) is a senior non-commissioned officer who supervises larger groups of soldiers and assists officers in operations and administration. A Warrant Officer (WO) is highly experienced and plays a major role in discipline, training, and advising officers. A Master Warrant Officer (MWO) is a senior expert responsible for mentoring soldiers and overseeing field operations. An Army Warrant Officer (AWO) is among the highest-ranking non-commissioned officers, acting as a bridge between officers and soldiers. 🎖️ COMMISSIONED OFFICERS A Second Lieutenant (2Lt) is the entry-level officer who leads a small unit, usually a platoon. A Lieutenant (Lt) assists in command and leads soldiers during missions and operations. A Captain (Capt) commands a company and is responsible for both operations and administration. A Major (Maj) is a mid-level officer involved in planning missions and supervising junior officers. A Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) commands a battalion and oversees large-scale operations. A Colonel (Col) is a senior officer responsible for managing major units or regiments. ⭐ GENERAL OFFICERS A Brigadier General (Brig Gen) commands a brigade and coordinates multiple units. A Major General (Maj Gen) commands a division and oversees large military operations. A Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) handles high-level command responsibilities and oversees corps-level operations. ⚠️ NOTE: Presently, the Nigerian Army have a SINGLE serving full General, who usually is appointed by the President and serve as the CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF (CDS) which makes him the highest- ranking officer. The second highest-ranking officer is a Lieutenant General, who serves as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) also appointed by the President. People on the Mainland are suffering heavy gridlock due to several bottlenecks, and opening this road would really help some parts. I understand that Opebi is still undergoing urban regeneration and that parts of the bridge itself are still under construction, but four years should have been more than enough to complete both the bridge and the regeneration project combined. A large percentage of the workforce lives on the Mainland, and this road would significantly ease traffic congestion. Also, there were some federal flyovers proposed on the mainland by president Muhammadu Buhari during his administration. God rest his soul. I’m hoping our president and the Minister of Works will look into this so that Mainland residents can also enjoy a smoother commute in these bottleneck areas. Although more road investments and junction improvements are still needed by the state government. For now, this Opebi bridge should be opened.
