Rec Room shutting down doesn’t mean VR is dead. It was more of a team issue. Recently, after talking with quite a few VR teams, I’ve seen something pretty counterintuitive: some of them are actually starting to make money. There are 3 main reasons. 1. Quest’s user base has not really shrunk. The market is still there. 2. Smaller teams are closer to users and can respond much faster. 3. AI tools are making teams much more efficient, which helps them reach break-even a lot faster. By contrast, Rec Room spent years expanding too aggressively. Its team was also relatively large for a VR company, while its core product did not evolve that much. Going forward, I’m more bullish on new teams replacing older ones that move slowly and are weighed down by heavy organizations. This is not because VR stopped working. It is just a new generation replacing the old one.

Rec Room closing is sad, but it reminds me of Sierra On-Line in the '90s. They built an early gaming multiverse (The Sierra Network) that was massive and highly valued, but ultimately fizzled out because it was just too far ahead of its time. History repeats! 👾💔"

Nah im actually in shock about them Shutting down Rec Room. I started that shit in 2019 and met all of my friend group on there around that same time and weve stuck together since. Its also where my name originated from (Har-) Shit doesnt get better from here on out..
