I promised residents answers on the future of Poolway - and here they are. 💙 Following last week's residents’ meeting, I've written to set out exactly where the plans stand, the expected timetable, and how residents can shape what gets built. If you're in Garretts Green and have already been in touch with my office, look out for this letter through your door in the coming days. Fighting to fix it. Together. 💪 #FightingToFixIt #PoolwayShoppingCentre #GarrettsGreen #HodgeHill

My response to the publication of the Government’s steel strategy today⬇️ “I very much welcome the Government’s much-delayed steel strategy. It clears some of the tests we set: trade defences are coming just in time, target markets are identified, and there is a plan to bring energy costs down. But there are now some key issues in which ministers need to move faster, especially to drive down the cost of energy, and drive up the certainty of new orders. Energy cost relief should be accelerated. Procurement rules must be tightened so British steel gets a fair shot at British contracts. And we need an immediate, operational plan to secure scrap supply - not another promise, but delivery. There is one deeper risk we cannot ignore. The decision to walk away entirely from blast furnace production leaves Britain exposed. Electric arc furnaces have a role to play but they are not yet a full substitute for primary steelmaking. Yet under current plans, the UK will become the only G7 country without that capability. At a moment when the world is becoming more unstable and when defence demand is rising - that is not just an industrial choice. It is a strategic gamble. To derisk this choice, fast, we need to hear from ministers what steps they’ll take with allies to guarantee primary steel supplies whenever the need arises. Steel is not just another sector. It is a foundation of sovereign capability. So, this strategy is an important step forward. But we now need a clear plan for delivery.”

The future of Poolway Shopping Centre belongs to our community and I'm making sure residents have a seat at the table. Last Friday I organised and chaired a residents’ meeting, bringing Birmingham City Council together with local people to provide a concrete timeline of next steps for the site. Your voice matters in this process and I'll keep fighting to make sure it's heard. Tomorrow I'll be publishing an open letter to residents with more details on next steps. #FightingToFixIt #PoolwayShoppingCentre #HodgeHill #BirminghamResidents

Is this peak populism - or its tipping point? I've spent two years researching why populists win. The answer isn't pretty: Appeasement abroad. Autocracy at home. Avarice everywhere. But there is a plan to beat them. Why Populists Are Winning. And How to Beat Them Out 26 March. 👇 whypopulistsarewinning.com

I recently spoke to @itvnews to discuss the Business and Trade Committee's new report on the Post Office Horizon scandal. Fujitsu admitted in 2024 it knew about Horizon's faults for decades. It still hasn't paid victims a penny, while collecting 21 taxpayer-funded contract extensions. It's time Fujitsu paid up.

I have written to @CompaniesHouse CEO, Andy King, regarding “reports of a serious security vulnerability in your WebFiling system which, for an unknown duration, allowed unauthorised access to the private dashboards of any of the UK’s five million registered companies.” 🗓️The reply is due by Monday 23 March. 👀⬇️ committees.parliament.uk/publications/5…

'Why Populists Are Winning And How to Beat Them' - ten days until publication! I started writing this book because I was angry. Angry that the politics of fear was beating the politics of hope. Angry that the centre-left kept losing the argument to people with worse ideas but better tactics. If you believe democracy is worth defending - and that fear shouldn't be the last word in politics - I think you'll find it useful. Here's how to beat them 👇 whypopulistsarewinning.com

This is what change looks like for our community. 💙 NHS waiting lists in Hodge Hill & Solihull North have fallen from 212,419 to 156,473; that's tens of thousands more people getting the care they need faster. But there is still so much more work to do. Fighting to fix it. And we're not stopping here. 💪 #FightingToFixIt #NHS #HodgeHill #SolihullNorth #Birmingham
