In 2009, Bitcoin proved that money could operate without banks. Now, a new movement is beginning, one aiming to do for communication what Bitcoin did for finance. Protocols are emerging to decentralize how we connect, message, and share information. 🧵

FC Barcelona harvested facial scans and voice data from 100,000+ fans (including minors) without consent. All they got was a €500k fine. The problem is this: You can reset a password. You can’t reset your biometrics. This should be completely illegal, no fine reverses the damage and potential future damage this will do.

FC Barcelona has been fined €500,000 by Spain's data protection authority. The club collected facial scans and voice recordings from over 100,000 fans, including minors, without consent.

@alanvibe This seems to be the the mechanism: tie everyday services to digital ID, and it quietly becomes mandatory without ever being called that.

They just can’t stop peddling Digital ID ‘for everything’ Many of us may agree with charging tourists to visit museums - but then they throw in the Digital ID clanger! the proposal put forward by Baroness Hodge made in a recent independent review of Arts Council England was conditional on the Government first rolling out digital ID #notodigitalid

The real problem is that technology outpaces laws and regulation. If sufficiently powerful surveillance tech gets a head start, we’re always fighting a lagging battle trying to counter it after the fact with regulation alone. Therefore, we need other more effective constraints in tandem with the law and regulations.

@TutaPrivacy Important decision. But it also shows how close we were to normalising mass surveillance as “standard.”

You're making a different point to me and have stripped my point of nuance. My point is not that they don't make it addictive to stay in casinos, they d i.e. the noises and gamification etc. But that the they don't "algorithmically optimise themselves to maximise addiction in real time and also target kids". Making the design space of Casino addictive is not the same as the algorithmic optimisation I'm referring to. You're equivocating the term "algorithmic optimisation."

Lol, you think casinos are not algorithmically optimise? Thats really funny, why dont they have clocks, Windows, you cant tell what time of day it is, this is made to keep you gambling, there the ones who found out how we work what keeps us coming back and how to take advantage of that. Even box stores do this, as some scale. everything is place so you will spend more and more.

Should gambling addicts sue casinos? Should overeaters sue supermarkets? Obviously not! So why are social media companies being sued? We're entering a world where companies that create something other people actually want are at risk of being sued, banned, or heavily regulated.

@DrNickA The centralization in the hand of few companies is 100% the danger, not only that it's mainly in one country, with global control over devices, platforms, and access. That’s an oligopoly at best, oligarchy at worst. We're fast tracking our own demise.

@Cointelegraph Post-quantum migration is coming. Liberdus anticipated this early by integrating quantum-resistant cryptographic primitives into its design. Future threats require present-day architecture. Check us out: liberdus.com

@BigBrotherWatch If they can lock features until you verify your identity, they’ve basically built a “comply or lose access” switch into your phone. Your phone was basically partially disabled overnight unless you comply. Absolutely mental.

🚨NEWS: UK iPhone users must now prove their age or lose full internet access "It is absolutely outrageous that, overnight, Apple has put a chokehold on Britons' freedom to search the internet, access information and use apps unless they provide sensitive ID documents. This means 35 million Brits who have paid hundreds or even thousands of pounds for Apple tech suddenly now have a child's device unless they comply with invasive demands for personal information that go far beyond what UK law requires. Apple has crossed the Rubicon with this software update which is more like ransomware, holding customers hostage to ID demands that are invasive, exclusionary and unnecessary. Children's online safety is vital but requires better parental controls and thoughtful tech responsibility - not sweeping, draconian, shock demands by foreign companies for all of our IDs and credit cards." - Silkie Carlo [@silkiecarlo]

Meta created the problem. They didn’t “accidentally” harm kids, they engineered addictive systems and knew the effects. All the addictive feeds, endless scroll, engagement loops etc. Senior execs wouldn’t let their own children use Facebook. Now they’re pushing ID checks as the solution? That’s shifting blame, not fixing the problem. Typical immoral Meta tactics.

Banning new foreign routers doesn’t solve the actual issue. US-made devices can still have vulnerabilities, be exploited, or go unpatched, bugs don’t care where hardware is made. All this does is stifle freedom to choose what products people can buy, undermine free trade, and force a population to use “approved” hardware. If I'm not free to purchase and use a router in China, Germany, Japan or anywhere, then what does that say about the state of economic freedom? This is intrinsically paternalistic and authoritarian.

The US government just banned consumer routers made outside the US theverge.com/news/899172/fc…
