Hello, are you still there? Back in 2024 I played a new game every day for 115 days, sharing a clip of me playing it. So where are they now? 👀 This is either "wow loads have failed" or "damn, some are still building since 2024" - take it how you want.

@xMason2000x @AxieInfinity Yep. The earnings pulled attention in. The gameplay decided who stayed. That is still the part too many projects try to skip.

@pseudoshiro @SkyGaming Exactly. A playtest is a lab, not a launch. Calling every early build a "live product" is how this space farmed skepticism at industrial scale.

@LostRelicsGame @SkyGaming that's why playtesting is not an actual product launch, but most web3 games are trying to sell that those demos are their product (and trying to loophole that it's on early acess blabla)

Where did the fun go in Web3 gaming? Serious question folks. When was the last time you genuinely couldn’t wait to play a Web3 game because it was actually FUN? Not because there was: Rewards. A whitelist. A tournament. Lately, it feels like too many games in this space are built around extraction first and gameplay second. Everything feels like: “earn this” “farm that” “complete these tasks” But where’s the addiction? Where’s the excitement? Where’s the game you’d still play even if there were zero rewards attached? Because right now, a lot of Web3 games feel more like jobs disguised as games. And honestly? That’s part of the reason player retention keeps collapsing. Gamers don’t stay because of token incentives forever. They stay because the game is actually enjoyable. Web3 keeps talking about mass adoption. But mass adoption was never going to come from dashboards, tokenomics & daily tasks. It comes from making games people genuinely love playing. So what game in Web3 right now actually has that real “fun factor”?

I’ve been exploring how blockchain gaming is evolving, and one platform that caught my attention is @maxdotfun_. Most Web3 games focus on rewards first. But the more sustainable model is when gameplay itself creates value. That’s the concept behind max.fun.

@pseudoshiro @SkyGaming Live ops help, but retention usually dies earlier: weak core loop, weak loot chase, too much wallet ceremony. Events can't CPR a game nobody wants to log back into.

@SkyGaming we lack live ops (in-game events) on some web3 games, so player retention is close to zero shatterline have the potential in the PVP mode back then but they lack live ops

@iam_moakram Exactly. If you need a white paper to pick up a sword, you've already lost the player. Better ownership is nice. Better games are mandatory.

The next wave of Web3 games probably won’t feel like “Web3 games.” They’ll feel like normal games with better ownership underneath. Less friction. Less explaining. More playing. That’s when the category becomes much easier to onboard into.

@CoachdeeNG Still building. Still dropping loot. Still proving web3 games don't need a spreadsheet as a tutorial. If the game comes first, the tech can stay in the background where it belongs.

@prisonmikeio @KissItAndWink Exactly. P2E on top of a weak game is just a faster way to disappoint people. The economy can amplify a good loop. It can't resuscitate a bad one.

@LostRelicsGame @KissItAndWink Yup that’s exactly what we did wrong in our first title. We launched P2E economics without a game to back it up and went into a death spiral. Hard lesson learned.

It's funny when people call out Web3 games and criticize them because 93% of them failed when Steam has the same percentage of dead games that never make commercial success. We squeezed right in there.... He isn't wrong to point out the failures of Web3 games. But you can't ignore the sheer volume of Web2 game failures and think it's only a Web3 problem.
LaTony Garage💋😉@KissItAndWink

@SpikeCollects @VladK133 93% dead isn’t good lmao. Idk in what world it ever would be. And recently, I saw two games that I believed were Web3 and I thought “Hey, those don’t look too bad” only for them to turn out to be Web2 games. So you’re just wrong there

April was violent in the Shatterforge. 17,933 items got broken down and 551,272 Shattercore came out the other side. Biggest sacrifice: 99 Spyglasses of Captain Moonscar for 49,500 Shattercore. What surprises you most on this list?

@KissItAndWink @prisonmikeio A lot of the space earned that criticism. But launching economies before gameplay was the failure, not some law that games with ownership can't ship.

@prisonmikeio Also, Web3 gaming has NEVER shipped a finished product. Not a single Web3 game has made it to a 1.0 release. They’re all in a perpetual state of beta or alpha or pre-alpha or early access. How can you say Web3 gaming is on par with Web2 when nobody can finish even one game?

@prisonmikeio @KissItAndWink That's the right lens. Web3 doesn't rescue weak games, and rewards don't rescue weak retention. Small communities can absolutely carry a game if the loop is strong enough.

To double down too you can't ignore there are successes in Web3 but the metrics are much smaller. There are Web3 games right now thriving with smaller dedicated communities. That's just the state of web3 gaming right now. Indie titles can thrive. It's the AAA titles that can't survive without a playerbase to support it.

@juanallen @Jihoz_Axie Bingo. If the economy only works while emissions are doing CPR, it was never an economy. Ownership only matters after the game loop can stand on its own legs.

play-to-earn didn’t fail because players don’t want value. It failed because many of us confused liquidity with economy and emissions with retention. i’ve seen that firsthand. If participation only exists while rewards are being subsidized, that’s not an economy… it’s distribution. gamefi was never meant to be web2 + tokens. it was supposed to align ownership, incentives, and long-term behavior. So yeah… “not 10x yet” is fair, but inflation was never the innovation.

BTW. It's not that play2earn is not working. It's that play2earn is working so well in web2 that web3 is not a 10x improvement yet. That will change over the coming years as AI induced wage displacement creates covid-level necessity for skill-based stimulus.

lmao I thought I would try getting some gear early to see if OP or falls off I am pleasently suprised that it cannot carry you in epic and above that skill matters. shows great balance and I advise people who ask this as well. Still worth the purchase to get an idea of things and fun as heck lol
