..Galway West is turning into a real nail-bitter between Fine Gael & Independent Ireland. This count is the Fianna Fail elimination so that should give a boost to FG, but they're currently 2,100+ votes behind Independent Ireland, - maybe too big a gap to make-up at this stage?

🚨 Latest Opinium @ObserverUK poll 🚨 A third now prefer rejoining the EU (36%). But the least divisive option for public opinion is staying outside the EU while negotiating a closer relationship (only 24% find that unacceptable)

..Re. last night's @bbctheview - note that if the EU Referendum was run again, then 60%+ of NI would now vote to 'Re-join the EU' - see below... (up from the 56% Remain score in NI at the 2016 EURef)

With tonight's @bbctheview covering the 2016 UK EU Referendum 10-year anniversary - here again are the results from our @BelTel Spring26 poll Q 'How would NI vote now?'. The results show Remain (or 'Re-Join') would now be 63% - up 7% from the 56% Remain score at the 2016 EURef.:

@AlanPeters1978 Yes, but the total split-vote across two candidates may add-up to more than what one candidate would get. Of course, how the transfers work after that is a different story!

These Political Party decisions can be more of an 'art' than a science. Running 2 candidates could increase the total UUP vote (compared to running only 1) - its very candidate dependent e.g. do they complement each other, & appeal to different parts of the electorate etc.?
Suzanne Breen@SuzyJourno

EXCLUSIVE: Doug Beattie is on course to be reselected to run in next year's Assembly election. At a crunch meeting last night, the Upper Bann UUP association decided to run 2 candidates after the party centrally asked it to revisit its original decision. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/…
