Most AI engineers in 2025 still deploy without understanding the VRAM their models actually need. A RAG prototype runs fine on a MacBook and suddenly everyone thinks it’s “production-ready.” Then an 8×H100 setup throws out-of-memory errors at 3 AM with a handful of concurrent users and the system collapses. Model choice isn’t what breaks you. Poor capacity planning does. Batch sizes, context windows, retrieval steps, embedding dimensions, concurrency paths, all of it compounds. If you don’t size VRAM requirements before deployment, the failure is guaranteed. Do the maths before you scale.
