Prep Boys’ Basketball 2A NW District Tournament Burlington-Edison 62, Sehome 60 With the game tied 60-60, Logan Heigert @loganheigert2 stole the ball and scored with time expiring for the Tigers win. Heigert had 34 points in the contest and Madden Whitlock @MaddenM3Wl added 15 points. B-E will now face Lakewood on Wednesday in another loser out game.

Prep Boys’ Basketball “Battle of the Bridge” - basketball edition. Burlington-Edison 68, Mount Vernon 60 The B-EHS gym was packed full with no empty seats in the house. The heated rivalry and intensity were on full display from the opening tip through the final buzzer. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, ending the first quarter up 20-13, aided by some key scoring and defense from Seniors Zak Fleshman @zflesh_23 and Paxton Booth. However, the Bulldogs battled back to make it a one point game at the half with B-E leading 29-28. The Tigers came out hot in the third quarter, knocking down some big 3-point shots and outscored the Bulldogs 27-16 in that period. The Tigers held a 10 to 14 point lead late in the 4th quarter and held on to beat the Bulldogs and earn the Battle of the Bridge victory by a final score of 68-60. For the Tigers, Logan Heigert @loganheigert2 had a game high 25 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Madden Whitlock @MaddenM3Wl added 12 points with 5 assist for B-E. For the Bulldogs, Kaden Sokol @KadenSokol08 was the leading scorer with 12 points, taking advantage of some Tigers in foul trouble by cutting his way to the rim and finishing. Connor Swanson @swanson_co62803 added 11 points knocking down some clutch buckets and free throws. “This was a very competitive game in front of a large and lively crowd in our gym. Mount Vernon is extremely well coached and plays hard and with intensity all of the time, causing this to be a very close game into the second half,” said B-E head coach Jeff Dutton @dutton74032 . He added, “Our offensive execution against Mount Vernon‘s zone defense was solid, especially in the third quarter. A key stat for us was a season low of only six turnovers. I was happy with the way we controlled the tempo in the second half to preserve our lead and earn a victory against a very determined Mount Vernon team.” B-E shot 50% from field and made 8 three pointers. Mount Vernon head coach Torey Swanson @Coach_Swanson_ said, “I was proud of how we competed, especially until the very end. We have an opportunity to grow from this game and finish the season strong. I’m looking forward to see how we respond.” Burlington-Edison improves to 13-4 on the season, 9-3 in the NWC. Mount Vernon moves to 7–10 overall and 4-8 in the NWC.
