We have, for too long, shackled the bakery to the morning. Night bakeries. Fresh croissants at 11pm. It is possible.

This advice from Alice Waters to the new owner of Julius Castle is so good: “She pulled me in close and whispered in my ear, ‘Make it beautiful. Ignore the rules. Do what’s right. Take care of the dishwasher.’” Might just make this my new life motto.

When we got to the ballpark yesterday I was reminded that the joyful and freeing trip we’d taken is the exception rather than the rule. We’ve allows cars to rule and become captive to them, which is a shame when you really just want to arf arf at a seal.

But this city is *so close* to being able to make it easy for everyone to have the type of day we had yesterday. Storage solutions are in the works (and in demand!), and a seamless network could be done relatively quickly if we could figure out how to get out of our own way.

There was no traffic on the way home, and we rode along the Embarcadero again, where I experienced the distinct envy of not being able to ride in the Sweetie’s Art Bar rickshaw.

It took us less than 10 minutes to double back to Oracle Park, where it would not be humanly possible to park closer than the free bike valet. I don’t even think Barry Bonds has a closer parking spot. Oh wait, maybe he does, because he bikes.

I wanted to highlight just how freeing being on a bike with kids can be. Yesterday, for instance, we took the youth to their first Giants game, and we swung by the Park Market at Crane Cove before that. This is a foolish proposition by car, regardless of kids. But…
