I’ve been thinking a lot about how we engage on trending issues;especially in regards to those that go against what we believe is the norm. And I’ve come to a realization that the average Ghanaian knows very little beyond what he/she has been told, taught or raised on. 👇🏾👇🏾

I attended the wedding of my niece and during his sermon, the priest prayed: “Lord, bless her womb with fruitfulness and grant this union the gift of children.” I must confess I felt very uncomfortable when he did not also pray: “Lord, bless him also with the health and vitality to be a fruitful partner in bringing forth new life.” It reminded me of a deeply ingrained cultural assumption in our society: when a marriage does not produce children, suspicion often falls first, and sometimes exclusively, on the woman. Yet medical science and centuries of experience tell us that infertility can arise from either partner. In fact, many couples spend years focusing on the woman, only to discover much later that the challenge lies with the man, who’d been firing blanks all years long. Sometimes they realise it when valuable time has already been lost. Our language, prayers, jokes and social expectations often unconsciously reinforce the notion that childbearing is solely the woman’s responsibility. It is not! If we are going to pray for fruitfulness in marriage, we should pray equally for healthy wombs and healthy seeds, for both husband and wife to be blessed with the ability to bring children into the world. The burden, after all, should not rest on one partner alone.

“A law that imprisons people for their sexual orientation or who they choose to love does NOT protect society. It simply selects a group of human beings and makes their existence a crime. That’s a line no Parliament in the civilized world should cross.” There, I said it.

@lydiaforson God created male and female only....what's it with the delusions. Laws are also based on morality. Cry all you want....we're never going to downplay the essence of morality in our society. Civilization is when you wake up from your slumber.

For those who haven't followed, the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has always been against the anti-LGBTQ bill. Right from it's inception. Particularly aspects of the bill which seeks to imprison LGBTQ persons or for other offences in the bill. In fact, in the 8th Parliament, he was only MP that stood up, then as Majority Leader, and insisted that the parts of the bill having to do with imprisonment be removed from the bill. He failed in that attempt. He persisted and even brought the bill back for second consideration. He still did not get enough backing to remove imposing custodial sentences on persons convicted of offences in the bill. That's how consistent he has been. What people misinterpret as his support of the bill during its passage in the current Parliament has been his insistence that the bill that was passed in the 8th Parliament be retained in its original form. That was his attempt to "pay back" NDC MPs for what he sees as their hypocrisy for supporting a hardine bill and asking then President Akufo-Addo to sign it and then now seeking to "water it down". But he has been very consistent in his opposition to bill as it has sought to imprison people.
