The @NWBearcatSB team will travel to Emporia, Kan., for the 2026 MIAA Tournament beginning Wednesday with a first-round matchup with Northeastern State. The No. 10-seeded Bearcats (31-20 overall, 10-14 MIAA) will square off against the No. 7-seeded RiverHawks (28-22 overall, 12-12 MIAA) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the second opening-round game of the tournament. Northwest and Northeastern State split a doubleheader on March 21 in Tahlequah, Okla. The RiverHawks took game one, 3-2, before the Bearcats bounced back with an 11-3 victory in game two. Northwest is in the MIAA Tournament for the only the second time since the 2018 season. Head coach Naomi Tellez led the Bearcats to the No. 5 seed in the 2024 MIAA Tournament, but dropped a 1-0, eight-inning decision to Washburn that season. Northwest has not won an MIAA Tournament game since the 2018 MIAA Tournament. Northwest's last MIAA Tournament victory was a 6-1 triumph over Northeastern State on April 27, 2018, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Northwest is looking for the program's first MIAA Tournament title. Northwest's only two regular season MIAA crowns came in 1984 and 1999. Northwest has produced the seventh 30-win season in program history. Northwest's 31 wins ranks as the sixth-most wins in a season in Bearcat softball history. The Missouri Western Griffons were able to score a doubleheader sweep of the @NWBearcatSB team on the Bearcat Senior Day. The Griffons tossed a pair of shutout victories with a 4-0 triumph in game one and an 8-0 six-inning win in game two. The Bearcats are 31-20 overall and 10-14 in the MIAA. Missouri Western is 32-17 overall and 11-13 in MIAA play. The Bearcats will honor six seniors at the conclusion of the second game against the Griffons. The @NWBearcatSB squad surpassed the 30-win mark for the seventh time in program history after a doubleheader sweep of the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Friday at Bearcat Field. Northwest improved to 31-18 overall and 10-12 in MIAA play. UNK dropped to 14-35 overall and 3-17 in league games. The Bearcats also surpassed their single-season school record for stolen bases. The Bearcats are 86-for-102 in stolen base attempts this season. The previous Northwest single-season record for team stolen bases was 82 set in the 2025 season.
