A very large tree has come down onto a building at an apartment complex in North Highlands due to the current windstorm. Crews are working with Sacramento County Building Dept to examine the extent of the damage, and evaluate the feasibility of reoccupying the affected units. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

7:08p- Crews arrived to a property with multiple modular homes actively involved with fire. The fire was threatening an adjacent home on another property, and property owners were doing what they could to contain the blaze with garden hoses. The fire was contained to the property of origin, and the threatened home was saved. Multiple people were seen occupying the vacant property for several days leading up to this incident, bystanders described them as “squatters”. No injuries were reported, and the fire remains under investigation. All lanes of traffic along Elkhorn Blvd have been reopened. This fire was particularly challenging because mobile and modular homes are built with highly combustible materials, and they’re generally spaced in close proximity to other similar units. Many times, as in this case, when one unit burns, other nearby units have a high likelihood of becoming involved as well. Fire grows exponentially each minute, so ensuring you have working smoke alarms and a plan is key to having the best chance of survival if you experience a fire in your home.

6:09p- While crews were responding, our dispatchers updated that a homeowner was seen returning inside the home to gather property, escalating the potential for crews to initiate rescue operations. Crews arrived to a home in Carmichael with heavy fire showing from the garage, threatening an adjacent home. The fire quickly spread to the attic, but was contained to the home of origin. No damage was sustained to the exposure. 3 adults and a dog were located safe outside without injury, and will be displaced. The fire remains under investigation. This is a reminder to the community; Once you’ve made it out of an emergency incident, stay out. Property can be replaced, lives cannot. Also, check your smoke alarms monthly, fire grows exponentially each minute so early detection is important.

Crews from Metro Fire and @FolsomFire arrived this evening for a vehicle that was pushed beyond its limits, and became disabled at the overflow of Deer Creek on Scott Rd. Thankfully the solo occupant was not hurt, but she was trapped in the flood waters and required rescue. This is a common incident when increased rain and flood waters flow over the roadway. Tonight our victim was fortunate that she wasn’t hurt, and that the waters weren’t higher. When roads are flooded and closed, do not risk trying to get through. It only takes 6 inches of swift moving water for a vehicle to get pushed or stalled out. Turn around, don’t drown!

Crews from Metro Fire and @FolsomFire arrived this morning just after 8:00a.m. for a house fire in Orangevale. 2 occupants were at home at the time, and were able to get out on their own. 1 occupant was transported by ambulance for smoke inhalation, and 2 cats were rescued and resuscitated by fire crews. The fire was contained to the home of origin, and the cause is under investigation. It’s important for our community to know that our top priority is ensuring the life safety of ALL LIFE on incidents, and that includes our community’s animals.❤️

Crews arrived this morning just before 9:30am for a barricaded subject lighting his house on fire on the 3000 block of Ramsgate Way in Rancho Cordova. @sacsheriff deputies and @RanchoCordovaPD officers worked to negotiate the safe surrender of the suspect while fire crews partnered with SWAT members to protect adjacent homes with hose lines and evacuate the neighborhood. The suspect was eventually overwhelmed by smoke and fire, and gave himself up to deputies. He was transported by ambulance with smoke inhalation injuries for evaluation. Thankfully there were no other injuries reported. Both adjacent homes were saved, but the home of origin was completely destroyed. The suspect is under arrest for multiple arson related charges, and will eventually be booked into the Sacramento County Jail.

Crews arrived this morning to a house fire in Citrus Heights. Crews made an aggressive push inside to locate the fire and any occupants still inside. The fire was extinguished and held to the home of origin. No injuries were reported, and the fire is still under investigation. Have you checked your smoke alarms and created your home fire escape plan?🚨 Check your alarms EVERY month, and change your batteries 2x per year. Practice your home fire escape plan when you do your checks, don’t wait for the real thing! Smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors have a lifespan of 5-10 years depending on the manufacturer, so be sure to check your dates while you’re at it!🔥🚒
