@VicariousLee I wonder how much of the problem is still post-pandemic overload/socialization. Honestly, I don’t think the reviews I’m writing this year are as good as in past years… when I even manage to review

It is honestly not just one or two people affected. I can already count 7 people submitting separate papers on all different topics, some qualitative, some quant - all rigorous. 5 institutions. Bad, clueless, and rude reviews. This isn’t a “one bad reviewer” problem.

Finally read our lab's #SIGCSE reviews in detail. Two observations: 1) the reviewers this year, with some exceptions, were sorely lacking expertise in qualitative methods and social theory, 2) positivism doesn't have to be a tool of white supremacy, but is CS, it very much is.

@1a @1a I was buying a condo exactly a year ago, the collapse was extra frightening and upsetting. I have to trust that my HOA makes sure my building is safe. I think that’s true, but every bump in the night is still alarming.

@FutureDr_Drea: when it comes to convincing stakeholders and partners with data, we need to connect the data to human stories and lived experiences - in higher education that means students' lives and stories. #IUSEInsights @IuseProgram

@XueliWang1: 80% of two year students intend to transfer to a four year but only 25% do. In STEM it is 77.9% to 10.2%. This is an issue of opportunity, equity, and social justice. @IuseProgram #IUSEInsights

Consequences for cheating can include guilt, which can make it seem like trait instead of state. But make it hard enough to not cheat and eventually the incentives will be there

Claim: cheating is state not trait. Students cheat when the incentives are right: when the consequence of cheating is lower than the consequence of not cheating

@amyjko You're the second person I know who has replaced their own dishwasher this month. Why are all the dishwashers committing suicide? Note to my dishwasher: I love you and fixing the basement AGAIN is all I can handle.

After reading many abstracts with phrases like "find the best programming language" or "identify the best teaching technique" in them, how about if we just auto-delete "best" and insert somewhere "works better for the privileged students in our small sample at a rich school"?
