53 years ago today, May 5, 1973, America’s Horse, Secretariat, won the Kentucky Derby in a record time(1:59.4) that has never been surpassed. Secretariat went on to win the coveted Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, Preakness Stakes).
