National Police Week is a time to recognize the unwavering dedication of law enforcement officers across the nation. We are grateful for our police officers who serve the Spartan community each day with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to safety. We also pause to honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and service leave a lasting legacy, and we hold their families, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts as we reflect on their profound contributions.

Our community gathered in Lansing on Monday for the Annual Candlelight Memorial Service, an event dedicated to honoring the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. This ceremony brings together families, colleagues, and supporters to remember the courage and sacrifice of Michigan’s fallen officers, offering both reflection and unity.
MSU Officer Luke Silver stood in solemn vigil during the wreath‑laying tribute, representing our department with dignity as we remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We remember. We honor. Always. 💙🕯️

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!
This week, we’re celebrating the unseen heroes behind the headset: our @Ingham911 FIRST, first responders.
They are the calm in the chaos, the first voice you hear when seconds matter most, and the critical link between those in need and those who respond. Day or night, rain or shine, they are always here for our Spartan community.
And yesterday, they got a special surprise: @TheRealSparty stopped by with our MSU Police officers to thank their team for everything they do. To our amazing dispatchers, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and heart. You are truly the heroes in headsets!

Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week continues, and it’s a good reminder to practice lightning safety. If you hear thunder, head indoors immediately. A sturdy building or a hard‑topped vehicle offers the best protection. Avoid using plugged‑in electronics and don’t run water until the storm has fully passed.
Once conditions improve, check local forecasts and campus updates before going back outside. You can also review the "Emergency Plans" section in the SafeMSU app for additional severe‑weather guidance.

As part of Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, at 12:59 PM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, all cell phones in Ingham County will activate their Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) feature, which will include an audible alert tone. This is only a TEST as part of the statewide tornado drill.
In addition, at 1:00 PM, the outdoor warning (tornado) sirens will be activated. THIS IS ONLY A TEST!
MSU DPPS encourages test alert recipients to use the opportunity to identify a designated space on campus where they can seek shelter in the event of a real tornado warning being issued.
For more information on severe weather preparedness, visit: michigan.gov/miready/be-inf…. If you haven't already, please download the SafeMSU app and enable notifications to stay informed during emergencies.
