Fabulous night at the exquisite Strawberry Hill Golf Club listening to some remarkable young Musicians play jazz classics. They are all graduates of Guildhall or The Royal College of Music and call themselves The Blue Orchids.

Also appearing, the wonderful Patricia Hayes who became a great friend and Andrew Sachs before his enormous success as Manuel in Fawlty Towers. Alan was the loveliest person you could meet, so quiet and modest and I'd like to wish him a belated Happy Birthday. Much Love...Maddy x

As it was Alan Bennett's 90th birthday last week, I thought we'd celebrate it with my own connection to him. I spent a year playing Felicity Rumpers in Habeas Corpus in 1973 at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue where Sir Alec Guinnes kissed my knee on a nightly basis.
