It’s probably unlikely that when Solly’s Hot Tamales began in 1939, the original owner dreamed his tamales would still be popular 87 years later. Yet, today, the tamale stand is as popular as ever, selling tamales not only to Vicksburg residents but shipping them across the country. Once people get a taste of the hand-rolled tamales, there is simply no substitute. Read more: magnoliatribune.com/2026/04/30/red…

House Speaker Jason White and State Senator Brice Wiggins wasted little time in directing legislative attorneys to prepare analysis on the Callais ruling’s impact on state Supreme Court redistricting in Mississippi. Could congressional and legislative redistricting be added to the call? That’s up to Governor Tate Reeves.

OPINION: The Supreme Court’s decision in Callais will likely have an immediate impact in an ongoing legal dispute over Mississippi’s Supreme Court districts and could have an outsized impact on other redistricting moving forward. Read more: magnoliatribune.com/2026/04/29/u-s…

The majority found that a Louisiana congressional district relied too heavily on race. Chief Justice John Roberts had described the district as a “snake” that stretches more than 200 miles. “That map is an unconstitutional gerrymander,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the six conservative justices.

🚨🚨 BREAKING: Just days after an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, Ole Miss professor James M. Thomas shared an “8647” photograph on his social media channels. In common parlance, 86 means to “get rid of,” or in some instances, refers to killing. President Donald Trump is the 47th president of the United States. Thomas captioned the photograph with “waves in 1A,” presumably a reference to the First Amendment. Thomas is no stranger to controversy. In 2018, amid a contentious confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Thomas publicly encouraged the harassment of U.S. Senators. “Don't just interrupt a Senator's meal, y'all," Thomas tweeted on October 6. "Put your whole [d**n] fingers in their salads. Take their apps and distribute them to the other diners. Bring boxes and take their food home with you on the way out." Two years later, Thomas got crossways with State Auditor Shad White. Thomas participated in a “scholar strike” to protest “racial injustice and inequity” and White demanded he reimburse the state for the days he was compensated while striking. Thomas’ post and his allusion to the First Amendment come months after Ole Miss terminated an employee, Lauren Stokes, who shared a post composing Charlie Kirk to a Klan member and expressing the absence of remorse over his murder. Stokes lawsuit against Chancellor Glenn Boyce for an alleged violation of her First Amendment rights was recently dismissed.

The City of Jackson is asking a federal court to block the recently established water authority as signed into law by Governor Tate Reeves. The City contends that the Metro Jackson Water Authority Act violates the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution and oversteps the federal courts’ power to oversee the city’s water and sewer systems.
