‘Beside’ started late at night. I got lost in a mood and kept shaping it until I had a solid draft. Warm pads, a nostalgic melody, and a Reese bass I obsessed over until it finally felt right. The vocals bring something human into it, while the drums lean a little dirtier, slightly garage, slightly raw. It always felt like a B-side, something sitting quietly next to a bigger moment. That is where the name came from. But it is also about something deeper. The idea of not walking through life alone. I love the image of loved ones walking beside us through both the highs and the lows. From a faith perspective, I have experienced a peace that logic cannot really explain. Just knowing my creator is with me, beside me. When life feels overwhelming, when I should feel anxious or shaken, this grounds me. ‘Beside’ is out now on Anjunadeep! 🩵 anjunadeep.co/mabe.gcn
