It dawned on me earlier that the current setup is sort of like the old format but with three teams per division as "division winners". Bruins and Senators are 5-6 in the conference, but fall behind the 7-8 Pens/Flyers because they were 2-3 in their own division. Solid format

To refresh: - BOS ‘26 pick top-5 protected, PHI ‘27 pick top-10 protected - If TOR stays top-5, BOS pick slides to ‘27 - If TOR is out of top-10 in ‘27, PHI gets ‘27 pick, BOS gets ‘28 unprotected - If TOR is in top-10 in ‘27, they choose who gets ‘27 pick and ‘28 unprotected

Here's what the playoffs would be under the old format: 1. Hurricanes vs 8. Senators 2. Sabres vs 7. Flyers 3. Lightning vs 6. Penguins 4. Canadiens vs 5. Bruins Not that these individual matchups are so much better, but the current format has it as: 1v8 2v5 3v4 6v7 ?????????
