The farm workers movement was about securing basic, human rights that were denied to some of the hardest working people in our state and country. Their fight, their struggle, and their victories inspired me and inspired a generation of activists across the country. We honor the legacy of farm workers and the universal fight for dignity, equality, and fair working conditions for all. This March 30th – and every last Monday of March moving forward – will provide an opportunity for Angelenos to reflect on how the struggle of farm workers has elevated working people everywhere.

Today, I signed a proclamation officially designating the last Monday of March as Farm Workers Day in the City of Los Angeles. Joined by Councilmembers Rodriguez, Padilla, Hernandez, and Jurado, we came together to recognize the generations of farm workers whose labor, sacrifice, and organizing helped advance basic rights that were denied to so many. Farm Workers Day will serve as a moment for Angelenos to reflect on the movement’s lasting impact and recommit to dignity, equity, and justice for all working people. Los Angeles stands with the workers who have always moved us forward.

I am keeping Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguia, and Debra Rojas in my heart, and I honor their strength and that of every woman and girl horrifically harmed by those in power. The sickening reality is that what Dolores, Ana, and Debra endured is not isolated, nor is it of the past. Real progress requires more than moments of reckoning – it demands sustained action to dismantle social, cultural, economic, and political structures that have hurt women throughout our history. Dolores and leaders like her inspired so many of us to activism. Mr. Chavez's crimes do not diminish the courage of farm workers and workers everywhere who fight for their rights, equality for Latinos, and a stronger nation for everyone.

After 3 weeks of grazing in the Sepulveda Basin, this beloved herd of goats is headed to their next pasture, Corbin Canyon Park, to continue their wildfire prevention efforts. Keep an eye out for these busy workers in their new location!

They came. They grazed. They cleared 35 acres. More than 1,000 goats have finished clearing invasive vegetation in the Sepulveda Basin, helping reduce wildfire risk. The pilot used targeted goat grazing to remove dry brush in an environmentally responsible way. With their work complete, the goats are now moving on so the area can be protected as bird nesting season returns to the Sepulveda Basin, allowing wildlife to nest undisturbed.

When Gregory Bovino and ICE carried out their raids in Los Angeles, I told them directly to get out. Now that Bovino is leaving his government role, our country is better for it. But make no mistake: the cruel and dangerous raids in our cities go far beyond one person. Our democracy is at stake, and people’s lives are at stake. I will continue to fight for our immigrant community and everyone in L.A.

As a former nurse and a physician assistant, I know firsthand that this heat is something to be treated extremely seriously, and I’m making sure the City is preparing accordingly. Hundreds of City facilities, including libraries and recreation centers, are available for Angelenos who need to stay cool. Do not hesitate – get indoors and into air conditioning and protect yourself.

Tonight, we celebrate the films that inspire the world and an industry that supports so many working families in L.A. As we honor Hollywood’s biggest stars, let us also honor the carpenters, lighting technicians, writers, and the countless others behind the scenes who bring movies to life. Congratulations to every nominee — and know I will always fight to keep Hollywood working!

We are closely monitoring the synagogue attack in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Our hearts are with the Temple Israel community — we stand strongly against antisemitism and condemn this and any act of violence against the Jewish community. LAPD will continue its increased patrols around places of worship across L.A. to keep Angelenos safe.

We have much more to do to save lives and to address encampments and street homelessness in our city, but this report underscores the importance of our strategy to bring people inside. Until my Administration launched Inside Safe, Los Angeles never before had a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing encampments and voluntarily moving people into shelter immediately. And there is no question that Inside Safe has saved lives. With new groundbreaking initiatives, we have helped reverse longstanding trends – with overall homelessness, street homelessness, and now homeless mortality all declining. Now, it’s up to us to keep moving forward, and to not revert back to the failures of the past.

Working hand-in-hand with industry leaders, we are making filming easier and more affordable in Los Angeles – the entertainment capital of the world. The Griffith Observatory and L.A. Central Library have been the backdrop for some of the most iconic stories ever told – we are continuing that legacy for the next generation of storytellers. City Hall will continue to champion key industry needs and work to create good-paying, union jobs in the process. Learn more ⤵️ mayor.lacity.gov/news/mayor-bas…
