Israeli PM Netanyahu says Marco Rubio is tearing down the ICC for him: “I spoke yesterday with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and once again he reaffirmed to me the United States' intention to act forcefully against the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC endangers justice around the world, and it also threatens the right of democratic, sovereign states to exercise their sovereignty. In effect, it seeks to subject their security to the decisions of a corrupt clique in The Hague.”

.@AJArabic has terminated 24 Gaza journalists’ contracts. One is its survivor of northern Gaza reporters, Mohammed Shahin, who stayed all the genocide in the north and risked his life to continue reporting with Anas Al-Sharif and others. @AJEnglish has also terminated the entire Gaza team’s contracts who were evacuated for their and their families’ own safety. Call on Al-Jazeera to restore their contracts now and respect its obligations towards Gaza reporters. This is unacceptable and inhumane.

Al Jazeera Ends Contracts of 24 Gaza Journalists After Job-Security Assurances Exclusive | Gaza24Live GAZA — Al Jazeera has ended the contracts of 24 journalists and media workers in the Gaza Strip, according to members of the team, despite earlier assurances that they would be offered greater job security and future opportunities within the network. The affected journalists said Al Jazeera director Asef Hamidi had reassured them in an email that they would not be abandoned and pledged to support their professional development and provide suitable positions across the network. Instead, they said, their salaries were stopped and they were referred to a private company identified as “Media,” where they would be paid on a piecework basis without permanent contracts, insurance or clear employment protections. The decision affected correspondents, camera operators and producers who covered the war in Gaza. Those named by the group include Mohammed Shaheen, Mohammed al-Sharif, Ayman al-Hissi, Hassan al-Zaanin and Ashraf al-Sarraj from northern Gaza, as well as Jamal Adwan, Alaa Salama, Ola Abu Muammar, Moaz al-Amour, Abdullah Abu Kamil and Talal al-Arouqi from southern Gaza. Many of the journalists had previously worked for local and regional media organisations before Al Jazeera recruited them at the start of the war. They said they joined the network to bring Gaza’s story to a wider international audience and because they believed their relationship with the broadcaster was based on mutual professional commitments. Some worked with the network for two to three years under bombardment and direct threats. Several were injured or suffered professional and personal losses, while others lost homes or family members but continued reporting. In social media posts, the journalists accused the network of retreating from what they described as its moral and professional obligations. They said the transfer to an unstable piecework arrangement did not represent a fair alternative to their previous contracts or reflect the risks they had taken. Some also raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest, alleging ties between officials at the private company and individuals with professional interests involving Al Jazeera. They said the head of a Gaza-based committee concerned with journalists’ protection also manages the company to which they were referred, and called for an independent review of the arrangement. The journalists urged Al Jazeera to reverse the decision, honour its previous commitments and give them priority for future positions and projects. They also called on the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate, rights groups and international media organisations to review their contracts and correspondence with the network and ensure that they are not compelled to accept work without legal protection, insurance or minimum job security. The group said it was prepared to pursue legal action before Palestinian and international bodies, stressing that it was seeking fair treatment rather than exceptional privileges. “We are asking for treatment that reflects the risks and sacrifices we endured during the war and protects our dignity and professional rights,” the journalists said.

A Birmingham mother who threatened to "blow up" a primary school, forcing almost 400 pupils into lockdown, has avoided prison after a judge ruled her case was "wholly exceptional" due to severe mental ill health. Davina Frost, 28, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on July 22 after admitting to making a bomb hoax following a series of abusive messages sent to a primary school attended by her children. The school is in an area of Birmingham with a substantial Muslim minority population. Frost, deemed to be "substantially unwell," received a 16-month prison sentence suspended for two years, was ordered to complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity, and must undertake a nine-month mental health treatment programme.

One mosque is attacked every five days in the UK on average, according to data from the government’s official partner for monitoring anti-Muslim hatred. The British Muslim Trust (BMT) documented more than 70 incidents including assault, vandalism and arson in the last 12 months, with London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands being the top three locations for attacks. Among the reported cases was that of a man who set fire to a mosque in Peacehaven, east Sussex, in October 2025. In July 2025, a man released rats outside a mosque in Sheffield. In February this year, the Home Office pledged up to £40m for security staff, CCTV, alarms and other security measures for mosques, Muslim schools and community centres through the Protective Security for Mosques Scheme. However, the BMT said that mosques have to prove they’ve been targeted before they can access the money. Other mosques have waited up to 18 months to receive the support, or have been denied it altogether without explanation. In response to the new data, Akeela Ahmed, chief executive of the BMT, said: “We believe the government should be doing everything it can to help mosques protect themselves... We need to recognise that the momentum of attacks is building, and we need to react and prepare for this. “A mosque is vulnerable purely because it’s a mosque... We recommend exploring better ways to get the funding to mosques... including that the fund is devolved in order to speed up its delivery.” A Home Office spokesperson told the Guardian: “We are working to process all applications as quickly as possible.”

Before Karim Khan, Israeli intelligence reportedly spent years surveilling and intimidating his predecessor, Fatou Bensouda. The former Mossad chief allegedly pressured and threatened her and her family in an effort to derail the ICC’s Palestine investigation. Then @KarimKhanQC sought arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Allegations against Khan—initially raised internally—were subsequently leaked into public view. What the complainant expected to remain a confidential process was publicized and politically weaponized. The Guardian reports that pro-Israel actors appear to have been active in leaking information about her complaint. Netanyahu later invoked her case to attack Khan and portray the warrants as “contaminated.” The allegations were independently investigated. After reviewing the investigative report and thousands of pages of evidence, a panel of three senior judges unanimously concluded that the factual findings did not establish misconduct or breach of duty under the applicable legal standard. That does not require us to accuse the complainant of fabrication. It does require us to state the evidentiary outcome honestly: the allegations were not proved before the independent judicial panel charged with assessing them. Yet, the broader pattern remains deeply disturbing: surveillance, intimidation and pressure against one ICC prosecutor, followed by leaking and political weaponization of allegations against her successor—both while investigating Israel. Israel’s campaign of coercion, surveillance and political interference against the ICC will continue for as long as the court insists on applying international law to Israel’s conduct in Palestine. The international community has a duty to protect the ICC’s independence and ensure that neither its prosecutors nor its judicial processes are overridden by threats, reprisals or geopolitical pressure.
