@JillCallison I would bet many teachers also have student loans of their own. Maybe they care for aging parents. Who knows? Why rush to judge when you don’t know their situation?

@JillCallison Every family is different. If you have young kids and teach in SD, basically your salary is a wash. Consider daycare costs or any big expense/medical emergency. To look at these very meager salaries and expect them to barely survive is a pretty myopic view.

You *know* I support public-school teachers & I think they should be paid better, but saying a two-teacher household couldn't afford the basics? Go ahead and scold me. I just struggle with that.

@SarahRheaWerner It takes a village. When the village disappears, it put SO MUCH stress on parents. And single parents? Forget about it. Not humanly possible.

I think most of us have just witnessed how absolutely downright MISERABLE our friends with children are right now (especially re: the whole homeschooling thing).
