Political point scoring at the expense of people with a learning disability is shameful and has no place anywhere in the world.

We expect more from senior political leaders. The current spat between President Trump and Governor Newsom, with both using slurs about intellectual ability, is unacceptable and deeply insulting to people with a learning disability. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@CMO_England Tell that to care workers who work in flats where people smoke. @mencap_charity did nothing in Supported Living flats when clients smoked.

Second-hand tobacco smoke is harmful, especially to children, pregnant women and medically vulnerable people. Risks include asthma, poor birth outcomes, cancer and stroke. A consultation on proposals to extend smoke-free places is now open: gov.uk/government/con…

Encountered my old housemate who bullied me and our other autistic housemate out of our home. Apparently, he now works for Mencap.

2/2 Too many people with a learning disability and/or autistic people are locked away and being restrained in mental health hospitals, 2,030 people are currently locked away.

@JayneMc6 @arealmofwonder The constant rejections after interview made her suicidal for a time. She now has much better support but it was so hard to watch & support, knowing these were people (including Mencap!) who were supposed to be ‘supporting’ her to find work.

Whenever I hear people questioning the existence of those with Down Syndrome, I always remember these words from Sally Phillips. (Well worth the watch. ❤️)
