The @CFTC’s jurisdiction is premised upon the existence of a commodity derivative, no matter the derivative’s underlying asset. Substituting an agricultural product for a sports event as the underlying asset does not change our authority. More:

Today at @ICI's Leadership Summit, I discussed how free market principles guide my approach as @CFTC Chairman. Demand will always exist across a wide range of products. Rather than pushing that activity offshore into unregulated markets, we should foster lawful, regulated markets in the US, and lead the next era of financial innovation.

Claims that “insider trading is rampant” in prediction markets because the @CFTC's antifraud rules are “fuzzier” than others are simply untrue.
