SJGC is proud to congratulate Devani Allen and Deiana Abdul-Gadir on their selection for the ColorComm Next Gen HBCU Fellowship. This year-long initiative provides HBCU students and recent alumni with the chance to connect with influential decision-makers, receive formal mentorship, participate in professional development workshops, and access recruitment opportunities from leading companies for internships and full-time positions. Devani, a senior in Broadcast Journalism, is the Editor-In-Chief of The Famuan and a 2023 Disney Storytellers Scholar. Deiana, who earned her B.S. in Broadcast Journalism in 2021, contributed as a staff writer at Journey Magazine, an associate producer with FAMU TV-20 News, and a radio personality for 90.5 Tha Flava Station during her time at SJGC. We were thrilled to see SJGC alum Elijah Rutland back on The Hill for ARTalks. In the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Building, Rutland engaged with students and faculty, sharing insights from his career journey and offering advice to aspiring designers. Hailing from Macon, GA, Rutland founded Fix My Sole and served as its Chief Creative Officer. His significant influence in design and illustration was evident through collaborations with major brands like Nike, Walmart, Xfinity, NFL, and NBA. Rutland, who earned his B.S. in Graphic Design from Florida A&M University in spring 2022, continues to shape the design landscape, leaving a lasting impact across various disciplines. Congratulations to SJGC scholars Germanie Bozeman and Markayla Oats, who traveled to Los Angeles, California, as participants in the NFL HBCU Seedkit Experienceship Program. During their visit, students explored the NFL LA office, toured SoFi Stadium, and presented a case study to NFL leadership. Both Markayla and Germanie were members of the winning team. Our students engaged in an insightful discussion with Brian Rice, a distinguished SJGC graphic design alum, as part of Design Week. Currently, Rice serves as the Senior Vice President, Global Brand and Design Officer at 3M and is a member of the SJGC Board of Visitors.
