Cities don’t thrive when space is owned by cars, they thrive when it’s shared by people. From superblocks to school streets, this is what happens when cities put care, empathy, and inclusion at their core—and why leadership matters more than ever. READ: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

This path gives residents something the city rarely does: space to move, think and connect. The enduring challenge is to extend this vision from sport to transport. But every network needs to start somewhere. And along Mumbai’s western edge, that start has already taken shape.🔚

It is physical infrastructure as social infrastructure: enabling group rides, casual meetups, and parents riding with kids. Over time this normalises cycling as a legitimate urban activity. In a place where the bike comes with certain cultural baggage, that mindset shift matters.

Running parallel to the Arabian Sea, the Mumbai Coastal Road is an expressway connecting South Mumbai to its western suburbs. But embedded within this megaproject is a less discussed, yet pioneering element: a continuous waterfront promenade with dedicated 7.5 km cycling track.🧵

Sensational Saturday in the City of Dreams, seamlessly assembled one mode at a time: foot, bike, rickshaw, ferry, metro, and rail. Not a novelty, but daily reality for the 88% of Mumbaikars who don’t own a car: moving through their city in a practical, flexible, resourceful way.

A voyage a decade in the making and a world apart, powered by a shared passion. A pair of local advocates turned global ambassadors collaborating on a conference in Mumbai. An unlikely friendship that shows the bike can get you anywhere… even to your dream job. @pedalandtring

Chris and @Cycling_Embassy will proudly contribute to the program to ensure cycling is treated as a serious, scalable, inclusive solution. Because where the bike plays such a visible role, the real opportunity isn’t to introduce it. It’s to recognise, support and design for it.🔚

Over the next two days, the NL-EU-India Urban Mobility Conference hopes to close that gap. Bringing together Indian, Dutch and EU expertise, it is designed as a knowledge bridge connecting global best practices with local realities and translating ideas into action on the ground.

In Mumbai, cycling is both everywhere and nowhere. It’s everywhere in that you see it daily—men riding to work, to deliver goods, to keep the city moving. A silent but essential layer of street life and the local economy. Yet, it’s nowhere in the conversations shaping the city.🧵

The Dutch blueprint for urban vitality goes far beyond the bicycle. It begins by reclaiming public space and reducing the dominance of the private car to make cities accessible, attractive and alive with possibility. Bikes aren’t the goal, they’re just the tool to get us there.

Seven years without a driving license, and we’re still waiting to find the limits of the Dutch bike-train combination. The latest: 100 km by rail from Delft to Tilburg, then a 20 km pedal through the Brabant countryside for a car-free weekend escape in the woods outside Diessen.

"Dutch Engineers consider the existence of a Stop-Sign a Design Failure!" Such a different perspective to look at our #streets. The excerpt is from the book - #CurbingTraffic - written by @modacitylife where they mentioned about how 1990s #Neitherland's #Sustainable Safety Program created a road hierarchy that fostered strengthened road calming measures, enabling even the youngest road users to navigate safely and at their paces. Have you read the #book yet? @mbruntlett I @modacitylife I @INCycRev I @fietsprofessor I @London_Cycling I @CyclingEmbassy I @cycling I @Cyclingnewsfeed I @RoadSafetyNetwk I @RoadSafetyTales
