It’s been a year since I wrote about how my daughter completely rewired my dad brain when she was born. My testosterone plummeted and I gained weight and cried at commercials, but she filled me with so much joy and meaning. A lot has changed in a year. Here are the highlights: 👇 1) My testosterone rebounded back even higher than it was before I had children. I first had it tested in my 20’s and it was 550. It’s over 700 now. 2) My sex drive disappeared during those sleepless nights with a newborn. It has come raging back. Please pray for my wife during this difficult time. 3) I had developed a double chin, an almost nightly bourbon habit, and chronic back and neck pain. I had lost interest in working out- it just felt like bad pain. Fast-forward to today, and I am setting personal bests on pull-ups and the kettlebell long cycle. That first year is really tough, dads. It feels like you have lost a piece of yourself. Even after experiencing it once with my son, the flood of hormones like oxytocin, lack of sleep, and a host of extra responsibilities can feel overwhelming. The next year, if you play it right, can be like a phoenix reborn. Dial in your sleep, sneak in the workouts when you can, and genuinely believe that you have the power to, and absolutely must, reclaim your energy and drive, and the year after can be the most transformative year of your life. It has been for me. Let’s make today the best day!

I have a beautiful new baby. I’m covered in infant formula, haven’t slept in weeks, and sex is a vague memory, but I’m still eager to seize the day. It’s not just me- discover how babies rewire their dad’s brain in these 5 fascinating ways to fend off depression and anger:🧵

It would only be smart and in the best interest of the astronauts and America for NASA to ditch Boeing and go with SpaceX for the entire Moon mission

guys... you're about to head out with both your mom and your wife. they both plant themselves right by the front passenger seat and stare you down... your wife (current co-pilot & life partner) vs your mom (the original VIP who carried you for 9 months) who gets shotgun?

6 feet. That’s the distance where X-ray almost completely disperses. It’s a game we play, where the goal is to minimize radiation exposure. ☢️ There’s a bit of gallows humor in medicine, so calculating the perfect spot to be in the room, especially with a student, is a fun but also serious game. Even with lead shielding, radiation is a problem. It can lead to cataracts and a host of other medical issues. Anesthesia providers are exposed to heavy radiation doses, poison gases, potentially infected fluids, and any number of hazards throughout the day, so it’s essential that we reduce our risk, but we also keep a good nature about it, recognizing that it’s part of the job. Also, that was me 50 pounds ago! Are there any hazards to your job that most people aren’t aware of?

@ModernDad Wonder how much of it was the bourbon? When my first came on the scene I gave up drinking. Wasn’t a heavy drinker to begin with, I wonder what my testerone levels would have been.

I'm listening to Plutarch & he starts the life of Pericles with a basically unrelated ramble about how certain women buy 'puppies and young monkeys' instead of having children. Truly nothing is new under the sun

NEW: 67-year-old Karen Cooke Lewis arrested for scratching a Tesla Cybertruck with nails on a board in Collettsville, North Carolina. The owner of the Cybertruck says he had no clue who Karen was. "We had all the craziness with Teslas when Elon was part of Doge and all that stuff, but I thought we had kind of gotten past that and I'd kind of made it through unscathed," the owner said. Karen was arrested and charged with injury to personal property. When will they realize that Teslas have cameras that are recording them?

I’ll be your bartender tonight- what can I get you? (Propofol and anesthesia gases work on the same receptor in your brain as alcohol, so it’s an apt analogy.)

Sport coaches and parents love “sport specific” training because it eye tests true enough that it might actually work. Athletes love it because that 3lbs of band tension means they don’t actually have to put in real work. Strength coaches hate it because they understand the lack of transfer and the waste of precious time and energy resources.
