@MoggedByTatum It’s tough because no matter what direction they go, they’ll end up being sizable underdogs to OKC/San Antonio regardless. I don’t think there’s anything they can do in which they go into a series against them as the favorite

Doesn’t need to be a cut and dry trade prospects for rentals or blow up the entire team. Sox gotta clear the OF logjam and find a controllable middle of the order bat who can play the infield. Those should both be explored regardless of their record at the deadline.

Boston already asks Jaylen to take on a lot of difficult advantage creation possessions within an egalitarian system, so integrating Giannis isn’t some massive philosophical shift, he just does it better and makes things easier to run. Giannis doesn’t need Luka/Harden heliocentric usage to dominate a game. He’s an elite advantage creator off quick actions, empty side PNR, transition, short roll catches, seals, etc. Boston’s offense is already built around paint pressure, rotations, and spray 3s. That’s literally the environment Giannis maximizes. The “adaptation” would mostly just be personnel turnover that’s happening regardless. If anything, Giannis makes the reads easier because he collapses the floor in a way Jaylen could never. You’re replacing tougher self-created Jaylen possessions with easier rim pressure, transition offense, foul pressure, offensive rebounding, and kickout creation, a lot more ways to integrate Giannis off-ball, simply a much better fit for Mazzulla ball. And unlike a true heliocentric guard, Giannis can still be a good screener, roller, cutter, transition weapon, dunker spot big, small ball 5, weakside roamer, etc. He scales way easier into an egalitarian ecosystem than people act like.

The starting point for any Aroldis Chapman trade should be the Mick Abel/Eduardo Tait package the Phillies got for Jhoan Duran last year. Yes, Duran is a decade younger. His ERA at the time of the trade was also four times higher than what Chapman's is right now.
