Today, I joined fellow leaders, residents of Buuri Constituency, family, and friends in celebrating the life of Josephine Kagwiria Guantai, the mother of Ms. Mary Mwiti, EBS, CEO of the Council of Governors (COG), who also represents the Council of Governors as a Board Member at the National Irrigation Authority.
Mama Josephine Guantai lived an exemplary life characterized by compassion, humility, and a kind heart. She was a shining example of goodness and selflessness to all who knew her.

North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency CEO Edwin Cheruiyot Rotich and Director David Kimeto today paid a courtesy call on my office at Maji House, Nairobi.
During the meeting, they briefed me on the progress of ongoing and planned water and sanitation projects under their jurisdiction. These include the construction of the Mois Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project, the Maron–Sibow Water Supply Project, and the Kosich–Embotut Water Supply Project, among others.
The team also provided updates on the planned designs for the Lodwar Town Sewerage Project, which is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (NUWSSP).

Africa is undergoing one of the fastest urban transitions in the world. Rapid population growth and urban expansion are turning cities into major hubs of economic activity, innovation, and social transformation.
However, this growth is putting immense pressure on urban infrastructure, especially water supply and sanitation systems that are vital for healthy, productive, and resilient communities.
Despite notable progress, millions of urban residents — particularly those in informal settlements — still lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation. This undermines public health, environmental sustainability, and economic productivity.
This afternoon, I had the honour of officially opening the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF2) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The forum, themed “Advancing Water Security and Sanitation for Africa's Cities,” is aligned with the African Union’s 2026 Theme of the Year: “Assuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
The forum seeks to shape Africa’s urban development priorities and strengthen policy coherence across sectors, in line with Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the New Urban Agenda.

Hungary has long been a valued partner to Kenya in water, sanitation, and irrigation. A key example of this cooperation is the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ahero Irrigation Scheme in Kisumu County, which features a solar-powered hybrid pumping system aimed at expanding rice production, promoting sustainable water management, and enhancing food security under Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
This afternoon, Her Excellency Katalin Nyirati, Ambassador of Hungary to Kenya, accompanied by her delegation, paid a courtesy call on my office at Maji House, Nairobi.
We held productive discussions exploring further collaboration in the water, sanitation, and irrigation sectors, focusing on infrastructure development, water efficiency, and food security.
Ambassador Nyirati reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s sustainable water and irrigation projects to ensure clean and safe water and food security for all Kenyans.

Yesterday, accompanied by Mwala Constituency MP Hon. Vincent Musyoka Musau, I inspected the construction of the Mwala Cluster Water Supply project in Machakos County, which comprises the Mwala water treatment plant, Ndarugu River intake, Mbiuni offtake, and water reservoir tanks.
The project is currently approximately 96% complete, and once fully operational, it aims to deliver about 6,600 cubic meters of water per day to over 99,000 residents in Machakos County.
I was impressed by the high quality of workmanship displayed during the construction, and I assured the residents and beneficiaries that the project will be completed on time and will provide clean and safe water for drinking and domestic use.
As a ministry, we remain committed to delivering tangible water, sanitation, and irrigation projects across Kenya as espoused in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, with the aim of ensuring clean and safe water, dignified sanitation, and food security for all Kenyans.
