We are halfway down the road to complete and total world financialization thanks to "prediction markets". Humans are built to find the easiest path to success in aggregate, which means we are only going to see speculation grow. Recently I have been met with increasingly implausible yet real scenarios. Someone this weekend told me he owns over a million dollars of SpongeBob trading cards and swears that he has made a good investment.
