I’m deeply disturbed by the reported hate-fueled attack on a Muslim man in St. Albert. We know that our diversity is our treasure, & I’m relieved the suspect is arrested & charges under review. We condemn all forms of hate, against anyone, in Alberta. edmontonjournal.com/news/crime/pol…

We are horrified and disturbed by the recent threats and calls for violence against Muslims and Palestinians, received by a major Islamic centre in Gatineau, Quebec. Islamophobic rhetoric has increasingly saturated political and public discussions in Quebec. It is sadly not surprising to see some hate-motivated actors feeling emboldened enough to threaten real violence against their Muslim neighbours. Troublingly, this status quo echoes the climate that preceded the 2017 mass shooting, where a Quebec city mosque also experienced numerous threats and vandalism incidents before a gunman killed six worshippers there (and injuring many others). Thankfully, a suspect has been arrested in relation to the Gatineau incident. We remain in contact with the community and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure safety and accountability. We call on all elected officials and political leaders to unequivocally condemn these Islamophobic threats and calls to violence, and to take concrete steps to ease tensions in Quebec.

I am deeply concerned by the hateful threat sent to the Muslim Students’ Association at UCalgary. Let me be clear: Islamophobia has no place on our campuses or in our communities. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they study, work, and live. Thinking of everyone affected — my office is here to support. f.mtr.cool/xzxyzpnkwa

My deepest condolences to the family of a Canadian killed in Lebanon and to all those who have lost loved ones in this horrible conflict. Too many innocent people have been killed. Civilians must be protected and we call on all parties to ceasefire, immediately.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who was killed in southern Lebanon last week. We continue to call on Israel to cease its attacks and urge all parties to pursue a durable, diplomatic solution that brings an end to the violence. My thoughts are with the Lebanese Canadian community, and with all those affected by this ongoing conflict.
