📍 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑫𝒆𝒍𝒉𝒊 Addressed the Workshop on 'Landslide Mitigation Measures for Resilient Hill Roads' at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, along with Union MoS Shri @AjayTamtaBJP Ji, Shri @hdmalhotra Ji and senior officials today. Developing climate-resilient road infrastructure in the geologically fragile Himalayan region remains a significant challenge due to complex terrain, unstable slopes and frequent natural disasters such as landslides, cloudbursts and earthquakes. Sustained efforts are being undertaken to address these concerns through adoption of global best practices and advanced technologies. ▪️Key initiatives include signing of MoUs with THDCIL for specialized landslide treatment in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, DGRE for geo-hazard mitigation, and GSI for geological investigations and data sharing for tunnel and corridor projects. Collaboration with NIRM focuses on geotechnical investigation scrutiny, design validation, tunnel safety audits, instrumentation monitoring and capacity building. ▪️A policy decision has been taken to prioritize slope cutting and stabilization prior to commencement of road works in hilly terrain, ensuring long-term safety and durability. Additionally, IIT Roorkee is being supported for development of guidelines on hillslope instability using real-time monitoring systems. Further, an MoU has been signed for deployment of InSAR-based landslide monitoring and early warning systems along a 100-km stretch of the Chardham route. ▪️Undertaking extensive topographical surveys using advanced technologies such as LiDAR and UAVs, incorporating landslide susceptibility mapping and historical data into DPR preparation, and adhering to best construction practices, we remain firmly committed to developing safe, hassle-free and sustainable highways across hilly regions. #PragatiKaHighway #GatiShakti

The event brought together leading international and national domain experts from government, academia, and industry to address the critical challenges of ensuring safe and sustainable road connectivity across India’s hilly regions. In his special address, Shri Nitin Gadkari emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to building stronger, safer, and future-ready roads. He highlighted the importance of visionary leadership in driving the nation’s infrastructure growth, particularly in strategically vital and ecologically sensitive areas. Umashankar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. • Shri Vinay Kumar Rajawat, DG(RD) &SS, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways • Shri Krishan Kumar, Managing Director, NHIDCL Along with other senior officials of MoRTH, NHAI and NHIDCL The workshop showcased various innovative technology interventions currently being implemented across the country: • Advanced Materials: The use of Geo-synthetics in states like Nagaland and Sikkim, Waste Plastic roads in Manipur, and Cement Treated Bases (CTB) across the North-Eastern Region (NER). • Modern Construction: Adoption of Modular Bridges in Manipur and Ultra High Concrete to enhance durability and reduce costs. • Spatial Technology: Integration of Drone-based LiDAR for 3D monitoring and Satellite-based Remote Sensing for macro-level hazard mapping and landslide-prone zone identification. The workshop featured technical presentations from domain experts from premier institutions IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee and representatives from Geobrugg, Maccaferri, Techfab, and THDCIL, focusing on cost-effective long-term remedial measures and predictive risk monitoring. The Sessions emphasized global certifications, numerical modelling of rainfall-induced instabilities, quality control in slope protection. The workshop concluded with a call for a pragmatic approach to contract administration and the adoption of specialized preventive slope protection mechanisms. Experts agreed that resilient hill infrastructure demands deeper investigations, hazard mapping at the project preparation stage, and continuous skill development for the workforce.

TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Initiative As part of the Government of India’s 100 Days intensive and focused campaign towards TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, NHIDCL organized a Ni-Kshay Shivir in collaboration with the National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, New Delhi, for TB screening of its employees at the Headquarters. On 27th April 2026, an Ayushman Arogya Shivir (TB Screening Camp) was conducted at the NHIDCL Cafeteria, NHIDCL, HQ encouraging early detection and awareness among officers and staff. Imphal–Jiribam (PKG-7) | Ongoing | Length: 36.40 km Enhancing Gateway Connectivity Towards Jiribam NHIDCL is undertaking the widening of 36.40 km of the NH-37 Imphal–Jiribam section (PKG-7) to 2-lanes with paved shoulders, which is in advanced phases of execution. Advancing Corridor Continuity in South Sikkim National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), is implementing the Ravangla–Legship Road Project (NH-510), Package-IV, strengthening a critical link in Sikkim’s hill highway network. The project focuses on upgrading the existing mountainous corridor to improve road geometry, safety, and riding comfort while ensuring seamless continuity of the NH-510 corridor. Designed to enhance all-weather connectivity, the road will support smoother movement of people, goods, and services across South and West Sikkim. Transforming Tripura’s Road Network National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), is undertaking the Improvement and Widening to Two Lanes with Paved Shoulder from existing Km 438.170 (Khowai Chowmuhani) to Km 439.410 (South Pulinpur) of NH-08, and from design Km 0.000 to Km 36.000 (Rangamati) of NH-208, forming part of the Khowai–Teliamura–Harina corridor. Covering a total length of 37.24 km, the project is being executed on EPC mode under JICA ODA Loan Phase-VI (Package-II). A historic connectivity boost for Assam and the Northeast. The Union Cabinet has approved the 33.7 km Gohpur–Numaligarh 4-lane access-controlled corridor, including a 15.79 km twin-tube Road-cum-Rail tunnel beneath the river Brahmaputra, to be developed at ₹18,662 crore on EPC Mode by NHIDCL, MoRTH. The Tunnel would be India's first underwater Road cum Rail tunnel. With the completion of the project, the current travel distance between Gohpur & Numaligarh, which is 240 km and takes about 6 Hours to commute, would be reduced to 34 Km, with travel time of only about 20 min, resulting in a time saving of more than 5.5 hours. With connectivity to economic, social, logistics and tourist nodes including Kaziranga, airports and inland waterways, it will strengthen multi-modal integration, reduce logistics costs and generate 80 lakh man-days of employment. Strengthening national security and emergency readiness in the Northeast, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4.2 km Emergency Landing Facility at Moran Bypass, Dibrugarh. Executed by NHIDCL on NH-02, the facility has been engineered with 33 m rigid pavement runway, ATC infrastructure, and secured fencing. Developed in seamless coordination with the Indian Air Force, it is capable of handling 40-tonne fighter aircraft and 74-tonne transport aircraft. Passing through key villages under Moran Circle, the project reflects infrastructure built with community partnership. This landmark asset will enable rapid deployment of defense forces and swift relief operations during natural disasters.
