In 2017, @larnefc were bottom of the Northern Irish second division. All their players and coaching staff had left, and the council closed their ground. Today, they are playing in the Conference League group stage. This is their journey. @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/58657…

Two huge moments for British football tonight as teams from both Northern Ireland and Wales qualify for European group stage football for the first time ever. Larne and TNS will both be in the UEFA Conference League group stage draw tomorrow.

Saturday's Irish Cup final between Cliftonville and Linfield will be the country's best-attended club match this century. It is a misunderstood rivalry - reflecting Belfast society and football's attempts to escape from historical shadows @TheAthleticFC theathletic.com/5460062/2024/0…

Boxing Day in Northern Ireland means Linfield against Glentoran - and an excuse to repost this 1995 classic. After heavy snow, the only orange ball burst, with the game having to continue with a near-invisible white ball.

The goal was great but the celebration of Jordan Stewart and Matthew Clarke accidentally headbutting each other was extraordinary too.

Linfield through in the Champions League. Which means they are guaranteed*at least* one more UCL round, Europa League football and a Conference League playoff round. Worst case scenario is they are one round from being first ever Northern Irish club to reach a European group!

Favourable draws for Northern Irish clubs in Europe. Linfield face Welsh champions TNS in the Champions League, while Conference League sees both Larne (vs St Joseph's) and Crusaders (Bruno's Magpies) take on sides from Gibraltar. Cliftonville handed Slovakian side FC DAC.

Some really sad news... I've been asked by David Bingham son of the legendary Billy Bingham to let people know that Billy has passed away. Billy played in the 1958 World Cup for Northern Ireland & managed his country to the finals in 1982 and 1986. Condolences to Billy's family

Linfield going to have a busy night of signing announcements. St Johnstone striker Eetu Vertainen and Cardiff winger Kieron Evans both to arrive on loan deals. Defender Ben Hall has also joined on permanent deal after leaving Falkirk. Dunfermline's Nikolay Todorov on radar too...
