⚓ HMS Victory was never meant to last forever. She’s built from wood, canvas & hemp and in a northern European climate, that means one thing. Decay. Constant maintenance was essential. Conservation today is about protecting what matters most. orlo.uk/gQH36

@Gorty674623 (2/2) We offer a range of free programming events across school holidays and monthly tours of our collections stores at no extra cost. As a charity and museum, it is important to us to provide a place of learning though as you can understand, this also means income is essential

⚓ The timber keeping HMS Victory alive doesn’t all come from Britain. Today we source oak from centuries-old forestry systems in France. There is evidence that Horatio Nelson supported the idea of sustainable forestry during his lifetime. orlo.uk/iOXgS

⚓ How much of HMS Victory is still “original”? It’s a question people have been asking for centuries. Conservation isn’t about replacing history. It’s about understanding change and making sure the story can still be experienced for years to come. orlo.uk/5J7Nl
