From one of my favorite presidents (and the only president who was born on July 4th): “About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.” presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/addr…

@rshereme Putin doesn’t want peace. He wants Ukraine … and more. The only path to peace, true peace, begins with Putin’s defeat. x.com/SocratesSword/…

Socrates Talks – Episode III Russia Culture and Imperialism. [First Draft.] © Socratessword 2025 Russia invaded because ultimately Putin wants to invade and conquer his neighbors. It is a difficult concept to express, not that I fully grok it, but for centuries Russia has believed that they are the protector of the "lesser Slavs." It can be fairly racist. That is why Russia mobilized during WW I after Serbian rebels offed Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary was going to punish Serbia for his death. They are Russia’s children. It can be straight out of 19th-Century racial theory. Russian leaders see themselves as strong and the West, especially the Anglo-Saxon nations as weak, full of chaos and perversions. They believe that they are better people. Putin sees conquering these other nations as protecting them from Western filth. I should say that not only is Russian society patriarchal, it is sociopathologically so, it is not one of a firm but loving father, but a brutal drunken one, with the ability to punish whoever they desire. Part of this comes from the history of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The West placed the Catholic Church above the state, due to the fraudulent, yet influential, Donation of Constantine, after the disintegration of the Western Roman Empire, In the Eastern Roman Empire, the Patriarch was appointed by the Emperor, the Autokrátōr. In normal times, when there was a vacancy, the Emperor would convene a Synod of Church leaders and submit three names to appear like church was the one choosing. In reality, everyone knew who the real pick was supposed to be and chose him. Though there were exceptions. Because of this, the Emperor was seen as the instrument of God upon the Earth. This was mirrored in Russian homes. The husband was the divine ruler of the house. At the dinner table, Icons of God or Christ were placed behind him. And so, patriarchy was reinforced. The wife and children are under his command, and it is his job to protect them from others and being led astray. There are three ways that European civilizations moved on from the Middle Ages. In societies like Britain, the Middle Class grew so big that they were able to subsume the Upper Class. Individuality and freedom were paramount. In other nations, like Germany, they had a substantial Middle Class, but it was co-opted by the Upper Class. Proper functionality of society and your place in it are more important. The third type are nations like Russia had such a small Middle Class that they had to import them as the intelligentsia. Dependency and authority are the model. In one way, and as someone who is definitely in the first category, the nations are like weeds, tended rose gardens, and hothouse flowers. The nobles were all powerful. There were few limits on their authority. If they wanted anything from a lesser class, they could take it, including running up huge debts. The others were subordinate. If the nobles wanted it, they could take it. Though the nobility are officially gone, the cultural template still exists. They are senior government figures or oligarchs with little difference. The Czars are gone, but Putin remains. And the Communists destroyed much of the Russian Orthodox Church and rebuilt it with athletics and government informers, but they still implement the rule of Moscow. Russia calls the former SSRs of Estonian, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine as the “Near Abroad.” These nations are viewed as Russia’s children and now they are led away buy Western freedom, especially the Anglo-Saxon version,. That is why Russia dwells on extreme examples of Western sexuality. Freedom scares them., They need authority and control. So in this regard, Putin sees the invasion of Ukraine as punishing a disobedient child. They need the control of Moscow and him. It’s the equivalent of using a belt on a child in a drunken rage. He believes that they have to belong to Russia. It is a moral calling. That is why he will not stop. He cannot stop until he is protected him. Any peace plan would be temporary. He must have them. That is why the only path to peace, true peace, is Russia’s defeat.

Europeans are dangerously overconfident that Putin will not dare to make a move inside the EU. The reality is that he absolutely could, and most of our countries are completely unprepared. We are sleepwalking into a massive crisis by assuming we are untouchable

🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹🇺🇦 Many of our Baltic friends appear to have misunderstood my words, possibly letting their very justified fear of Russia cloud their judgment. This has been my position for over a year. Allow me to make it crystal clear: For their own security, the Baltics must form a mutual defense alliance with Ukraine. The Baltics are the chief beneficiary of such an alliance, not Ukraine. Putin will think twice about invading if he knows Russians will have to face the same battle-hardened Ukrainians with housewife kitchen drones in the Baltics. I believe Ukraine will be willing to do this if the Balts send a battalion each to Ukraine. 1) Baltic states are vulnerable to a Russian invasion. Only about 60,000 untested active duty troops. No air force. Very small population. No capability to counter 1,000 drones-per-day sustained attacks. Russia currently loses in Ukraine the equivalent of the entire Baltic military force every 1.5-2 months. 2) European NATO capabilities and response to a hypothetical invasion of the Baltics are unclear. Europeans don't have sufficient munitions for sustained war beyond a couple of weeks anyway. 3) US is unlikely to come to the defense of the Baltic states. 4) Sending a few Baltic battalions to Ukraine could obligate Ukraine to send troops to the Baltics as part of such an alliance. Can be done on a rotational basis now, even just as rotational R&R deployments for Ukrainian troops needing rest from frontline duty. Permanent Ukrainian troop presence in the Baltics is THE deterrent against Russia. On the other hand, 1,000-1,500 Baltic troops in Ukraine is not going to turn the tide of war against Russia. This is why the Baltics will probably benefit much more than Ukraine from the alliance. 5) Russia invades countries it deems to be weak, to extract resources through occupation. The Baltics are weak without obligated Ukrainian defense. 6) A Baltic-Ukrainian alliance will reduce the risk of invasion by Russia, not increase it. 7) Such an alliance does not conflict with NATO membership. Baltic states are sovereign and have the legal right to join any other military alliances. 8) NATO Article 5 is not relevant. Russians fighting Balts in Ukraine is not an attack on the Baltics. Balts fighting Russians in Ukraine is not an attack on Russia. 9) Whether or not you believe NATO will actually defend the Baltics in case of a Russian attack (I don't), a Baltic-Ukrainian alliance only helps strengthen the Baltic states militarily. 10) 1,000-1,500 Baltic troops in Ukraine fighting Russians will not increase the chance of a Russian attack on the Baltics. Russia won't care about such a minuscule force. Militarily, it's insignificant. Russia loses that many soldiers every day. The only caveat here is whether Ukraine would agree to such a military alliance, as Ukraine stands to benefit significantly less than the Baltic states. I believe Ukraine will agree. ✊ I hope everyone can see that I'm spending my time and energy genuinely trying to help strengthen Baltic security contrary to various recent accusations against me by some Balts.

Where Is the American Resistance? Right. Let me get this straight. Putin, a man who looks like he irons his face, needed twenty years to turn Russia into his personal theme park. Twenty years of patience, poison, and paperwork. America managed it in about fifteen minutes. This is the country that invaded Iraq to deliver democracy like it was a pizza. That sanctioned half the planet for not holding proper elections. That had the absolute brass neck to tell Hungary it was doing freedom wrong. And now? The courts are theatre. The civil servants are gone. The media is doing that thing where it both-sides a fire. So where exactly are you? All of you? Because we remember the other America. The one that actually meant it. The Marshall Plan. The moon landing. The GI Bill. The country that looked at a broken world after 1945 and said fine, we will help fix it. Not because it was profitable. Because it was right. The America that produced Steinbeck and Springsteen and a constitution so beautiful that half the world copied it. The country where a kid from nowhere could stand up in front of a crowd and change the temperature of the room. Where the whole point, the entire national project, was that tomorrow could be better than today. That America is worth fighting for. And from where the rest of the world is standing, it looks very much like it is going quietly, in its sleep, without so much as knocking over a lamp. Putin would be insulted. He had to actually work for this. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1
