A man whose parents’ lives were “destroyed” when accused of stealing from the Post Office they ran says his focus is now on clearing his mother’s name after securing a six-figure compensation settlement for his father’s suffering.
Chris Roberts secured the settlement for his father’s case through the Capture Redress Scheme, established for former sub-postmasters wrongfully suspended, sacked or made to pay back alleged shortfalls, and for relatives of those who affected who have since died.
It is one of more than 30 cases in which Hudgells has secured compensation for victims, totalling more than £3.5million in damages.
Chris is now hoping to clear his mother’s name, as she was convicted and sent to prison. Her case currently sits with the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) to consider.
It comes as the first Capture conviction cases reached the Court of Appeal, with full hearings on the cases expected next year.
