Across Newham today, our teams were out campaigning and speaking to residents. This Eid we spoke to thousands of residents and many pledged to vote for Mehmood Mirza as their Mayor on the 7th May.

Newham Independents have officially launched our campaign across Plaistow West & Canning Town, and West Ham this weekend. Our activists were out across the borough, East Ham, East Ham South, Custom House, Canning Town South, Little Ilford,Manor Park,Merry land and Beckton, speaking directly to residents on their doorsteps. The message is clear: Newham wants change. Residents are fed up with over 60 years of Labour control. Simply changing faces is no longer enough, people want real accountability, real action, and a fresh start. Across every ward, we are hearing the same thing: strong support for Newham Independents and a clear commitment to vote for change on 7th May. Shame on those who launched an attack on Iran while peace talks were ongoing. This reckless escalation undermines diplomacy and risks countless lives. The Labour Gov. must not act as a puppet but stand for international law and condemn this attack clearly and without hesitation.

Statement on Recent Middle East Tensions I have today issued a statement condemning the recent military attack by the United States and Israel against Iran, which risks escalating tensions across the region and threatening global peace. Independent military action of this scale carries serious humanitarian consequences and undermines diplomatic efforts. The people of the Middle East — and families here in the UK with loved ones across the region — deserve stability, security, and peace. I urge the UK Government to resist involvement in further escalation and instead use its influence to promote de-escalation, diplomacy and a negotiated, sustainable resolution. Today we officially launched the Newham Independents campaign in Canning Town North and Canning Town South. Our activists and candidates were out together across the wards, taking the Newham Independents message directly to residents’ doorsteps. Leaflets were delivered and hundreds of conversations took place with local people. The response was clear. Residents told us they are fed up with 60 years of Labour-run council, the decline in local services, increasing taxes, and a long list of broken promises and U-turns. Many said they feel taken for granted and will not support the status quo anymore. Across Canning Town we heard the same message again and again: people are looking for real change. The Newham Independents are ready to deliver that change with community-based candidates, local solutions, and a commitment to put residents before party politics. We will not stay silent. In 2003, millions marched against the invasion of Iraq. They were ignored, and history proved the consequences were catastrophic. Today, we must not repeat those mistakes. The Newham Independents Party condemns the decision to allow UK military bases to be used in strikes against Iran. Escalation does not bring peace. It brings instability, civilian suffering, and long-term insecurity.
