William III and Mary II were crowned as joint monarchs in the Abbey #onthisday in 1689. William used the ancient Coronation Chair during the service, and another chair was made specially for Mary - which is now on display in our museum, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries, alongside their wax funeral effigies.
