Wind and solar output has quadrupled in the last 10 years from under 50 TWh annually in 2015 to almost 200 TWh in 2025.

Texas is the #1 wind and solar growth state in the US Wind and solar met all the growth in electricity generation in Texas in the last decade, while gas replaced more expensive coal. Total electricity generation is up over 30% since 2015.

20 years ago almost all of New Mexico's electricity generation came from coal and gas. In April of this year, that share dropped to 31%. This was the lowest share ever recorded, as wind and solar surged to 69%. April 2006: 94% April 2016: 78% April 2026: 31%

Wind and solar reached their record high shares despite April (and May) hitting new absolute electricity generation records for New Mexico as well.

California and Texas are the largest solar power producers in the US, but on a per capita basis, New Mexico and Nevada are far ahead. In Nevada, solar produced ~5,000 kWh per capita in 2025. That' enough to drive an electric car over 15,000 miles, more than the average American drives per year.

@KrzysztofH74666 @electricfelix This is the import chart for the same day. BESS displaced a lot of imports in the evening, but they do still ramp up later on, but with a much more gradual ramp into the night.

@nicolasfulghum @electricfelix Can you graph with Imports drawn below battery discharge? That way it would be easier to spot how imports shift during PV->BESS transition

NEW | California just reached a world-first solar milestone Over HALF (51%) of electricity generation across the whole month of May came from solar power. Battery storage is the big difference maker, enabling California to push the share of solar generation to this level.

@TomHCalver Very interesting and great project. I would say that the dynamic y axis really distorts the actual change of a trend. For some series, it's obvious, but on first glance a lot of people will have the wrong takeaways from e.g. real disposable income or the price of a pint.
