@BellaWallerstei Education is a non-taxable supply. Education is a universal good, Labour would have to contort the law so much the unintended consequences would crucify them. Amateur sports clubs would have charge VAT on coaching & sports associations would quickly go bankrupt.
Labour will add 20% VAT to private school fees within first year of power. Labour’s desire to punish independent schools is an attack on aspiration and economically illiterate. Independent schools save taxpayers £4.4 billion every year.
@rwl140172@markmc_82@BellaWallerstei Average cost for a year in private day school is £15k hardly the cost of a reasonable family holiday and way out of the reach of most families in the uk which feels rather elite to me
Marcus Rashford was born with next to nothing and decided to help millions of starving kids reliant on the free school meals he’d had as a youngster.
Marcus earned his money and helps others.
Toby Young is the son of a lord and helps no one.
@MingleDandy@JolyonMaugham And I’d be saying that whatever the colour of the uk government. As I live in England it the uk government that has accountability for it I expect them to sort it out as I’d expect the Scottish or welsh governments to do if I lived there
@MingleDandy@JolyonMaugham Oh well that’s great as long as there’s less shite on the beaches in England where water is privatised than in the other uk nations that’s ok then, all water companies private or government owned should be made to clean up there acts
@MingleDandy@JolyonMaugham Well our government should concentrate on putting our house in order but they won’t, so if this French action forces them to act I’m all for it
@JolyonMaugham The EU should concentrate on putting its own house in order. 16 years after giving Ireland the final deadline to comply with EU regulations, half of Ireland’s sewage is still not treated to the standards set to protect the environment before being discharged.
@maurice_1960@JolyonMaugham No it’s a fucking disgrace that our own government think it’s ok for untreated sewage to regularly be pumped in our rivers and sea
@darrengrimes Ask MayoKhsn why it’s not HIS fault? Because he NEVER admits to ANY wrongdoing! Our country is now a rubbish tio@ for all those that believe that by coming here they can coni to do exactly what they did in their own countries NOTHING, AND WORK IS NOT IN THEIR NATURE
I’m mystified as to why a ‘poverty campaigner’ doesn’t merely own a £700,000 Rolls-Royce but owns a £600,000 ‘back up’ one in case he crashes his first (which he has). We’ve all heard of champagne socialists, but this is next level. Rolls-Royce Radicals? dailymail.co.uk/sport/football…
@amwilson_opera@pzparker@IanDunt@UKLabour Well they’re no being denied the choice to do so are they ? Just having to pay vat for what is clearly a luxury. I’d like to not pay vat on many things I want but I have to and accept that, why should a private education be considered a special circumstance
@pzparker@IanDunt If people want to pay for their child's education twice - effectively - because their local state school is poor or because they want good arts ed then that is their look-out and nobody else's business. Far too heavy-handed @UKLabour - leave people to make their own decisions.
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg Multi millionaire posh Jacob Rees-might argues for the abolition of Inheritance Tax (at least get the name right if you’re going to talk about it), wonder why ?
@toadmeister I don’t even like these cars, I could understand a Porsche 911 but a Rolls Royce is so toe curling I would be embarrassed to even be a passenger!
What do you have to do in the Civil Service to be fired?
Objectively fail on all measures? Brazenly ignore the core principle of impartiality? Refuse to even turn up to the office?
I'd be interested to see what actually leads to a sacking...
Clearly none of those things!
@TheStaunton@KyloDrake@RupertLowe10 Lol no their employees have agreed hybrid working practices at departmental level across the civil service, no one is refusing to go in 😂
@KyloDrake@northernlefty@RupertLowe10 The point isn’t even if WFH is better the point is ministers told them to get back into the office and they haven’t.
