The first Oklahoman to be appointed to a presidential cabinet was Patrick J. Hurley, born in 1883 in the Choctaw Nation near present-day Coalgate, Oklahoma. He was appointed secretary of war in 1929 under President Hoover and served in that role until 1933. #OklahomaHistory
