The sounds of Western swing will fill the halls of the Oklahoma State Capitol on Monday, March 9! Join us from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for Bob Wills Day at the Capitol. There will be free live music, dancing under the dome, and exhibitors in the second-floor rotunda.

The first Oklahoman to be appointed to a presidential cabinet was Patrick J. Hurley, born in 1883 in the Choctaw Nation near present-day Coalgate, Oklahoma. He was appointed secretary of war in 1929 under President Hoover and served in that role until 1933. #OklahomaHistory

This week, legislators received Route 66 Centennial marketing boxes from the Route 66 Centennial Commission to help bring the excitement back home to their districts. Each box is filled with materials to help promote local events, highlight community landmarks and invite visitors to experience the history and charm of America’s most iconic highway.

#OTD in #history 1931, the #USA adopted the Star-Spangled Banner as its national anthem. The Congressman who wrote the bill explained that during the War of 1812, the song “Lifted the national spirit from the vale of gloom & despair…to the sunlit heights of confidence & victory”
