If you remember this video, you know it was—still is, actually—hilarious!
This video is a couple of years old and, I think, the full video was about a driving instructor without a speedometer.
A speedometer is a gauge that measures and displays the speed of a vehicle. That round thingy with numbers and lines.
Now without this speedometer, the driver explained that he gauges the speed his vehicle is travelling at instinctively—feeling it nashurally.
I'm writing this because I realised almost all the bikes I've seen in Lagos don't have speedometers. I stood at the bus stop and the only ones I saw with it were private motorbikes.
This means, as dangerous as we consider 'okadas' that ply our roads and transport passengers without helmets, they have absolutely nothing but their instincts to help them determine how fast they are moving.
This begs the question, why isn't the appropriate road safety agency doing anything about this?
Does public safety always have to be an afterthought in Nigeria?
