According to the new U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 estimates released today, Lakewood, New Jersey's population grew by over 6% between 2020 and 2025, and continues to stay ahead of Elizabeth for the fourth most populated town in the state. According to the Census, Lakewood's population is now at 143,765, trailing only Newark (323,808), Jersey City (302,013) and Paterson (161,793).



Speaking at the Statehouse, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill says the state is facing a "serious structural deficit," and is expected to be around $3 billion for the upcoming Fiscal Year. However, @GovSherrillNJ says she will not "raise taxes on New Jerseyans," saying there will be other difficult choices.


In addition to Newark, nearly a dozen municipalities across the state are having their own elections today, including in Paterson, where incumbent Mayor André Sayegh is seeking a third term as mayor of the state’s third-largest city.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is up for re-election on Tuesday, as he seeks a fourth term as mayor of New Jersey's largest city. Baraka, who has seen his profile rise amid a run for governor last year, is facing seven challengers on the ballot in the non-partisan election. Additionally, 19 candidates are running for four at-large seats on the Newark City Council, which includes one open seat.
