New Jersey now has an estimated 9,548,215 residents, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau released today, a 2.8% population increase - or 259,210 new residents - since April 2020.

According to the new U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 estimates released today, Lakewood, New Jersey's population grew by over 6% between 2020 and 2025, and continues to stay ahead of Elizabeth for the fourth most populated town in the state. According to the Census, Lakewood's population is now at 143,765, trailing only Newark (323,808), Jersey City (302,013) and Paterson (161,793).

The FAA is investigating after the crew of United Airlines Flight 921 reported being struck by a green laser near New Jersey's Newark Airport Wednesday evening. The flight landed safely. People who shine lasers at aircraft face FAA fines of up to $11,000 per violation, federal criminal penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

As the New Jersey Legislature continues to hold departmental hearings over the proposed state budget for Fiscal Year 2027, @johnsb01 reports that final revenue numbers, which will come out next week, are expected to be "promising," which could give Governor Sherrill and legislative leaders more flexibility in their negotiations.

Speaking at the Statehouse, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill says the state is facing a "serious structural deficit," and is expected to be around $3 billion for the upcoming Fiscal Year. However, @GovSherrillNJ says she will not "raise taxes on New Jerseyans," saying there will be other difficult choices.

Woodbury City, New Jersey police are investigating what they say was a "targeted arrow attack" that injured a man earlier this week. According to a statement, police were called for reports of a man who had been struck by an arrow in a wooded area, where they found the 65 year-old man with non life-threatening injuries.

With NJ Transit train tickets for the FIFA World Cup going on sale tonight, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill says roundtrip ticket prices will be priced at $98 after the agency was able to secure sponsorships from DoorDash, Audible, FanDuel, DraftKings, PSE&G, South Jersey Industries, and American Water.

NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri tells @AdamCrafton_ that the price reduction comes after the transit agency was able to secure a sponsorship, which will help defray part of the planned increase. The standard price for a ticket from from New York’s Penn Station to MetLife Stadium ordinarily costs $12.90.
