Characters like Helga's mom matter in kids shows.
People call it "inappropriate", but millions of kids grow up with alcoholic parents. Seeing that reality on screen helps those kids feel less alone and helps other kids develop empathy for lives outside their own.

Yeah, it would also be cooler if they explored the African vampire mythology instead of just making them the European because we never get that.
I mean, hell, even the Asian energy ones got love in cinema.
And African Vampires are freakin' cool they turn into mosquitoes instead of bats not bounding them to need permission to enter homes, they can take the skin of others to walk on sunlight and their fangs are made of pure silver...
Not to mention their real form us describe as a giant humanoid dwelling creature with iron teeth, long legs, and hooked feet that sits in trees to trap hunters... as the Ghanans stories say...
